What exactly does "feminized" mean ?

I thought it meant the seedpack will be all females, guaranteed, Is that the case ? 99% of my growing has been done from clones so seeds are news to me.

So as a rule of thumb do you still have to sex them or go about your business as if they'll be females ?

Feminized is when a female plant has been stressed to the point where it goes hermie. The pollen produced by the hermie flower will then be used to pollinate a female plant (either the same one or a different one- hopefully a different one to help stabilize it) and the seed produced is the result of two mothers. Since it doesn't have the male code available easily, the offspring should all be female. There is a downside; since it has a hermie father-mother, it has the genetic ability to produce hermie flowers if stressed too much. There are products used to prevent self-pollination on feminized plants, best know is Dutch Master's Reverse. It will cause the hermie flowers to fall off and will render their pollen useless. Hope that helps.

You would want to go on and assume they are females and clone as usual. Just make sure you carefully label the mothers and clones so that way if you do find a hermie, you will have an idea which ones are more likely to turn. Since clones are gentically identical to the mothers.

Edit Note:
Just keep a close eye on them. I have worked with fem seeds and not had any trouble, but it all depends on the lineage of the pollen and the mother.

I buy fem seeds all the time.I dont have problems with hermies or males but if you want you can get a reg pack of seeds.I will be getting a reg pack to breed my own seeds.

since i started buying my seeds ive bought nothing but fem seeds.all of them turned female.a few of them i stressed the hell out of them, almost to their breaking point.ive never had a hermie....i cant say that for random seeds.usually out of 10 reg seeds ill get about 50/50 males to females...where im 100% female on all my fem seeds.and ive notice that fem seeds tend to sex a little faster than reg seeds.maybe im just lucky...or maybe they got their shit together on the feminised seed front.....just dont trust all the "auto" strains out there...those are proven to be unstable at best...will still turn fem if its a fem seed..but still unstable on the rest of its growing cycles and traits

If you are looking to establish a long term grow with one strain and have no possibility of a hermie showing up, don't go fem. If you are looking to establish a quick crop for harvest and are ready to deal with a hermie situation if it comes up, fem is ok to grow. Quality will still be the same, and I've been doing a Barney's Farm LSD grow for a couple of gens and haven't noticed a herman yet.

So when I buy seeds I should NOT get femenized seeds, preferably. Correct ?
it all depends on you...do you want to grow from seed to harvest and start over...or grow from seed to clones and breed.if you want to breed get reg seeds...if you just want bud get fem seeds

I know people who use fems from fem seeds and breed with a stable male to produce seed.

any seed can turn hermie...if you stress any plant no matter what the seed it has the chance to turn hermie

well..yeah...thats kinda the purpose if your breeding...which is how i would do it...if i was breeding,id get a fem seed..start my mother plant from the fem seed...take a clone from it...then knock up the small clone to get your seeds, then your not screwing up a whole female plant..and your getting your seeds

Some don't turn hermie as easy, and those will usually be from a true male/female combination. Feminized seeds are more likely to go hermie since at least one of their parents was hermie. Statistically, all other factors being equal, fem seeds will go hermie more than reg seeds will. Ass what the great poet, Tupac, one said: That's just da way it is.

OK Mister, that right there is the bottom line !!! I dont bud from seed till Ive picked out a mother FROM the seeds. I dont do autoflower, Im a cloner all the way.

So yeah, Im askin cuz it's all relative to stability in the end. I geuss Im goin with regular seeds and go through the hassle. Worth it in the end, but yeah, it is a pain in the ass till you get rollin. Thanx for the info guys.

me..i would get both kinds if im breeding...being in a small space its time and space consuming to grow 5-6 plants at a time to get a female.id grow a mother from a fem seed...then do 2-3 reg seeds to try to get a male...then clone and breed from that.if your limited on space and need a female fast and not wait on the ratio game...then a fem seed is really helpfull...long as you know what your doing..you wont ever get a hermie...its not the seed..its the grower
