What base do YOU use?

I used Roots Organic (original). I had a few gnats during my last grow, but not many.

Are gnats harmful to the plants, or are they just kinda annoying?

like i suggest to everyone, what i use is an equal parts mix of worm castings, vermiculite, and perlite. Its a very low cost medium that i have found over the years to be a perfect environment for a healthy root system. It wont pack down, it wont hold too much water, and all my plants have thrived very very well in this mix.
It wont cost you an arm and a leg and i will without a doubt put it up against any "super soil" mix anyone wants to do a grow challenge with.
thats my whole recipe, ive tried all sorts of mixed soils from cheap to expensive and i've found thats the recipe i stated has given me the best results all around. have'nt had any issues once i made the switch a few years ago
The whole point of supersoil is to have all the nutrients available in the soil so that one only needs to apply water to the mix throughout the grow. what kind of nutes do you use? i doubt the worm castings and aeration amendments are able to carry your plants from seed to flower

This is what I was thinking and was about to post.

Hank, do you use only water from seed to chop?

No, and your quite right i do not just water from seed to chop, of course i use nutrients during my grow. My mistake for using the term "super soil" inaccurately. What i ment when i said super soil was using an expensive name brand mix such as FF for example. Thanks for the correction. As far as a BASE though this is ideally what I use as i've tried MANY different growing mediums including FF and once I switched to the simple mix like the one i use i've had far better results in MY grows. This is not to say that its better than others, i've only found that its worked best for me
