What are the logistics of becoming a legal breeder.

For some time now I've wanted to legally breed and sell cannabis seeds. What are some obstacles in my way? The state is Maine.

biggest obstacle is shipping/mailing which is still federally illegal

Here in Colorado the little guy license is $7000 a year to able to sell to disp's and such, that's a lot of seed sales to re-coop

That's a steep price but you can sell nug as well, right?
Still would only turn out to be like 3000 seeds and if they were autoflower, the number of people cloning plants would drop significantly.

Yeppers, you can sell nug as well and actually the folks doin clones are pretty much constantly busy, huge demand for clones here from home growers. Recent stats indicate 1 in every 3 homes is growing

So that kind of gives me a feel for it. But what about Maine? Are there any growers in Maine that could help a brother out?

I doubt it would be worth the hassle and expense. Have you noticed how many seed companies there are now? It's like hundreds. And to get actual buyers you have to have a proven history of quality seeds and probably a few Cannabis Cup awards, or similar contests. I wouldn't put much hope in it. Too many well established seed producers already. You'd have to have at least one really outstanding strain, like a GG or GSC type strain. That's not easy to do, which is why there are only a few top strains like that. I thought of doing seeds myself but after researching a little I decided it wasn't a good idea. 20-30 years ago, maybe, but now the seed market is saturated.

To OP do not listen to what bobcajun said. If you really want to be a breeder I don't care how many breeders there are in the market you can succeed just be prepared to put in the time and effort required to do it.

Yeah just ignore me and waste a bunch of time and effort. The world is awash is Cannabis seeds. It's possible he could succeed, but it would take a hell of a lot of seeds getting sold to make a living at it. Now if he wants to breed Cannabis he can certainly do so, and if he ever produces a truly outstanding strain THEN it might be worth doing it as a business.

Just because you don't have the ambition to do what it takes don't give you the right to discourage others. The fact that you want to discourage others of follow their dream because you couldn't do it or just never tried to do it is purely childish to say the least. So this right here is the reason why you should do it... Because there are 5 million people just like bobcajan that thin themselves out by just giving up n put you up front. BUT once again if you have one ounce of doubt that you will make it then your right you won't but at least you will be ahead of the pack just for trying.

Fine whatever, I gave my advice and I stand by it. He'll probably just go to jail, but not my problem really.

Step 1 Have Killer Strains that are stable.
Step 2 have cash for license
Step 3 give out free seeds to well known growers to get free ads.
Pay for ads

Willing to buy seeds if they are killer.
