Western Australian Grow

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

A little introduction before I post the pictures of my plants. This is my fifth year growing outdoors, My favourite strain to grow has been Lemon Kush due to the great results it has with my climate. If you check out my profile, you will see threads I've posted in which I display my other outdoor grows and my learning curb.

This year my room mate got 3 giant bins from that his work place that they were just tossing away. So I said fuck it, Lets put some drainage in it and some good soil and she will be ready. However I feel this is causing a lot of issues due to their not being quite enough drainage, So right now I'm worried that water is not evaporating fast enough and it might be rotting the roots.

My soil mix is as follows:
2 Parts Coco Peat & Perlite (50%)
1 Part Sheep & Cow Manure
At the bottom is about 2-3 inches of Perlite to help with drainage.
A pinch or two of Blood and Bone spread between the middle layer.

The fertilisers I've been using are:
Seasol (Which is a popular Australian Kelp Concentrate) at the rate or Once-Twice a week.
Epsom Salts - Every fortnight few days before I feed with Nitrogeon
A product called Charlie Carp, Which is a nitrogen based fertiliser enriched with seaweed and helps get rid of European Carps in Australian rivers.

Showing recent pictures to me is not enough, So I've posted a pictures at various stages of growth

Day 77 (Most Recent 24th December 2017)

Day 77 Girl Scout Cookies
(First time growing this strain, this plant had the fastest growth out of all the rest but now it seems to be declining. It still has healthy foliage but the tips are starting curl and the plant has a lot less vigour than the Lemon Kush)

Day 77 Lemon Kush #1
(This plant has been growing great, it wasn't as fast as the Girl Scout Cookies but it is overtaking it now and has a lot more vigour than the rest!)
http://oi63.tinypic.com/24vocoy.jpg

Day 77 Lemon Kush #2 (Rockwool Cube)
(This plant was stunted for a little while that is why it is so small but it has sorted it self out and seems to be quite healthy. This one was started in a rockwool cube unlike the first two)
http://oi67.tinypic.com/2ll28f5.jpg

Day 77 Lemon Kush #3
(This plant was also in a rockwool cube, It was topped and rescued from a failed indoor grow room. It looks quite stressed out and am waiting for it to recover)
http://oi66.tinypic.com/e96yy8.jpg

Day 77 Northern Lights Big Bud
( Everything I did with the other rescue plant, I did here also. Except this plant has been far more resilient to the the mistreatment and is growing at a far more faster rate.)
http://oi68.tinypic.com/2ly1qib.jpg

Usually the pest problems I have consist of Aphids, Ants and Caterpillars. But the size and scale of the pots these plants are in have minimised this issues but in hand have given me new challenges to face. A large out break of thrips in the garden. I was using a Garlic/Chilli spray but that was very ineffective and the infestation didn't decrease, So I switched to a foiler spray with Neem oil. About 5mls to 2litres of clean water and that seem's to be working for now.

I've been diligently checking the temperature everyday because here on this side of Western Australia the climate is very dry and often times exceeds temperatures over 28c/82.5f so when that does happen, I throw over some shade cloth and that helps with dropping down that temperature.

Last year my plants started flowering on February 1st when the days get shorter. So I've only got about a month of veg left before I start using a product called CANNA TERRA FLORES, which is a nutrient line designed for Coco perlite mixes. I've used this stuff on other plants and got great results. In future I will change to a more organic product.

So yeah that's pretty much it, If anyone has comments, suggestions, tips or otherwise please!!!! Drop a comment, even if you think my grow is shit. All your comments and advice will go into furthering my education in growing Cannabis and Cultivating other plants in the future.

hi, all is looking pretty good there, im in an eastern inland australian desert zone, my climate sounds the same as yours...very dry, we can grow the real fatty bud types the coastal zone people only dream about ha!
with your bug problems here are a few things ive found helps for most of those insects
ecooil.png
yffc.png
the eco-oil treats many bugs but also acts as an attractant for beneficial insects such as mantis etc to defend your plants.
the yates fruit fly control contains active ingredient spinosad, which will infect many bugs gut & render them bye bye.
also with the threat of root rot possibly look at a mycorrhizal form of treament with something like the below...

Thank you very much greencropper! I've been using that small container of eco neem inplace of a product called Beat a bug.
I haven't had much experience with beneficial plant bacteria, but I did a little research and tempted to try it for myself. Thank you very much for the tips.

welcome man, with the fruit fly control i just paint the main stem about a 30cm length, every month, not on leaves or buds, so no contamination of the produce, though from what ive read its harmless to humans i prefer not to touch it anyway, that eco oil really does draw in the good crowd eg mantis, lady beetles etc who attack insects detrimental to our plants, have fun!

A bit small for this time of year but with a month or so to go they will bulk up.
Be a bit careful of using Seasol so regularly especially in pots. It has a really high salt content.

Come and say gday over in the aussie thread if you feel inclined. https://www.rollitup.org/t/aussie-growers-thread.250691/page-1897
They're not as big as they could've been, but I guess it has been a learning process this year.
Also thanks for the tip regarding Seasol, I didn't realise there was so much sodium involved. Should I use an alternative? Or simply cut back the amount I use?

Thanks for your help, I will be sure to say Hello :)

I'd suggest (and I'm no expert by any means) use fortnightly or so at 1/2 strength.

Could I possibly substitute Seasol for CANNA Rhizotonic?
Give this stuff a go in place of seasol it’s pure kelp not a kelp extract like Seasol.

Rhizotonic isn’t a bad root stim but doesn’t give much if anything in the way of nutrients where the eco seaweed gives some nutrients aswell as plenty of cytokins that promote root growth,15ml per litre of coconut water is another good source of cytokins aswell.

Cool I've never used Coconut water to feed plants before, I'll give it a try thanks for recommendation! :)

I also feel I could be hitting the girls twice a week and not the once
Reckon ill do the ecoseaweed once and nitrosol once 4 days apart now its a lot better growing conditions
I add it to whatever I’m feeding with aswell as when I spray,it’s really good value I’ve only used about 450g so far.

Hey everyone, bit of an update.

I went out an purchased the products mentioned above. (I'm still awaiting for Great White to be shipped.)
I've been pretty diligent with keeping the bugs at bay. I've noticed the the temperature for the next week is going to be somewhere in the mid 30's. So I've put up the shade cloth for this week and hope when I come back at the end of the day that I won't be looking at a bunch of dead sticks in expensive ass soil.

I've been taking a lot of cones(totally meant to say clones fml), I've got two other Lemon Kush plants that have been going since August (I came back from Europe to found them growing in my yard, Wahooo!) Which I've topped. I've been taking the shoot's off the bottom of the plant as I am kinda afraid to top plants in this excess heat. Plus if I take anymore clones right now, they're just going to flower first thing February.

Tomorrow I'm going to try 1 Scoop of Eco Sea Weed with 450mls of coconut water per 9 litres of water. This is my first time using both of these products, So I am eagerly waiting results.
Hope everyone had a good chrissy, now they can escape their familes and return back into garden!

As per always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

I’d only go about 135ml per 9L it’s the coconut water I usually don’t go more than 15ml per L

That's like the biggest thing I am iffy on right now. I've done so much research on the subject for the past couple of days since you proposed it to me. Yet every source gives me a different dilution rate. So you know OzCocoLoco, I'll do it your way! ;)

I’m only going from what I’ve read so if I could be wrong, one way to find out. I don’t think the stronger dose will do any harm but after a while it MAY cause some issues but I tend to go less if I’m a bit unsure.
