Hello everyone, I have hard water here at my well site and take my plant water before the salt system for cleaning. Can I use just my water to water my beds or should I use an ro system or will my water be fine without it?

Short answer is, it depends. If your well water is soft enough you might not have an issue with unfiltered. Otherwise RO is the way to go. With unfiltered water there's a significant risk of a buildup of minerals.

That is also dependent on the type of minerals that are in your well water. A properly made and balanced soil can surprise you with the kind of water it can take and there have been studies to show that the idea of chlorine killing microbes in your soil as a complete fallacy. However, deno is still correct in the sense that it does depend entirely on the specific minerals that are in your particular well. Different wells are going to have different minerals and such in them, so you have to know what's in your water for sure.. but you'll be surprised at what a good soil can handle.

We're talking about a population of billions upon billions of microbes, and the growth of bacteria/microbes is exponential. So while the chlorine in the water will in fact kill some microbes, it isn't nearly as deadly as people think it is. This is why running RO water rarely fixes people's problems.

I'm using well water, anywhere between 419-460ppms and has so much calcium in it that I have to replace parts in my swamp cooler at least 2-3 times a year. My plants don't seem to notice it and I've never had a problem using my water with a single plant I've grown, not just cannabis. Even when I was in SoCal and my water had over 500ppms I still didn't experience any issues.

My well water comes out at 150 ppm as far as what’s in it I have no idea thanks for the reply
If you're in a small town then you may be SOL because there's only going to be information about the city/town water and not well water most likely, at least that's my experience. If you're in that small of a town then your only real option unfortunately is to pay someone to have it tested to be absolutely certain. But it never hurts to do a quick google search for "insert town/city name" well water report.

However, with a meager 150ppms it's likely that you have some damn good water because my well water is coming out at over 400ppms consistently. If your ppms are only 150 then you should be totally fine for sure. I lived in SoCal most of my life and tap water has never been drinkable, but I moved out of state and have a well here and despite the fact it's over 400ppms it's still some of the best drinking water I've had to date. Usually, if it's drinkable for you then your plants will love it as well.

I've never had mine tested, but I'm 90% sure it's manganese. Different minerals leave different colored stains (both in the toilet, and in the water holding tank). You can get an idea by pictures on the net.
