Water Cruing for Mold - Saving The Harvest

A common issue growers encounter is mold. I know this idea is often shut down and laughed at for ignorance... But hear me out. So my buddy grew and gave me a bunch of nugs, i attempted to dry in jars and got mold. Ive looked into saving it through water curing... So the argument seems to be - Mold likes water, the spores are hardy and can survive water, and it just covered the nug in spores or doesnt solve the problem at all. I Agree with the majority of this but i did my RESEARCH(Important part)-> Mold can survive and even thrive in water with the right 'nutrients', but if the water lacks the nutrients and light the mold will die.(Constant Water Changes can help this) For my own Addition to ensure water curing works to adequately fight mold i am adding natural substances that make the water a hostile environment for mold. These substances are a mix of Raw Garlic, Organic Peppermint oil, and Clove. This mix creates an environment in which mold can not survive for long when properly mixed into the water.

- In the mean time please share and stories you have had with water curing and mold to create a useful thread on the subject.

Say you do this process and you don't see any more mold on the surface of the bud. I would still break the bud up and put it under a microscope or a similar device to get a good look at it. Best of luck.

interesting, unfortunately with the stuff you are adding to the water will probably make the bud taste horrible if its even safe to smoke.

Update- Gradually decreasing the amount of the anti-mold mix in the water during curing is necessary for bud quality, no one wants to smoke ginger(although some people do like smoking clove)... Last few days should have nothing but peppermint oil in the water

peppermint oil is a personal choice, trying to spice up the nugs because water curing normally erases a large portion of flavor- combined with the untastly additives- something has to be done.... But lets be CLEAR this is not for someone who has "best case scenario" expectations for their grow. This is for someone who desperately wants to save their buds and is okay with it tasting like like a minty clove...- Although i hope it comes out much better than that lol....

Great idea, do you know where to get access to an affordable microscope that is adequate for cannabis examination?

The weed will be drying for a long period of time as well after water curing, so if there really is still mold it will have plenty of time to grow back.

it has the very best microscopes available to the marijuana grower with hand held garden convenience for under 15 fucking dollars.
buy one, scope your trichomes, use the first link with the pictures of trichomes even.

some info for you about some of the risk of moldy weed. worth a glance I think.

Should i just abandon it? im not unaware to the dangers of mold thats why i am attempting this. The Drying Process would give ample time for mold to grow back so i would see it and obviously not smoke it and give up.... But theoretically what would be the safest and best way to dry at this point?

I believe its penicillium or some common mold that grows rapidly... big web looking mold, obviously not going to grind up a nice dank moldy nug and smoke the spore keef my grinder collects.

you could extract from it, micron filter the spores, but really.....I'd throw it away.
there shouldnt be any hit or miss with growing/drying weed. grow bibles are free and they state the exact atmosphere controls needed to avoid molds. I use a dedicated tent with dehuey, ac, heat in the room. you need to monitor temps and humidity to it correctly. if you need a link to perfection let me know.

no really, a full size microscope is cool and all, but we use handheld cheap ones mostly in the garden. they get messed up, replaced when gummed up. easy to use, I'm not steering you wrong. read one issue of High Times magazine, or a cervantes or rosenthal grow bible.

I've owned them all. in my grow room and in my drying room and a spare somewhere else I cant recall I keep these


on my desk I have this one

but its not cheap, and its overkill for ripeness checking. I can watch the fluids moving through a mosquito's legs, plant cells, bacteria etc.

Ok i didn't come to the forum to be told to go read an extensive grow bible, i was asking the collective knowledge of the forum members for their personal best ways.
