Water Chillers~!

Anyone use those before? Thet seem to have a good reputation in the aquarium world.

And they are rating this for 3200 BTU at 3A. Sounds good to me.

Just was looking for feedback before i dropped almost 6 bills on this.

I'm still dialing it in but so far have noting but praise for this 1 HP.

I'm using an old green waste trash can 80 gal. for the holding res. (for now). Which in turn flows thru 2 tents using 2 Hot Box heat exchangers, a separate cooling line/coil in the feed res (62 degree), powered off one pump.

It controls the temps well (83 with lights on) and has no problem maintaing the sealed room. Even on the hottest of days/nights.

As for power consumption, the task for today is to build insulated box for the Main res. and to insulate the feed res. inside the tent to slow the thermal loss.

Isn't sunlight supply a company similar to CAP, Active Aqua, and the other lower end quality product based companys?

JBJ seems legit. I bought a small one for my clone machine and it worked well. still trying to dial it in. It seems like it gets clones too cold like a fridge and puts them into stasis? Thats another post though.
They all put off heat, just something to consider. I had mine sitting next to the clone machine blowing exhaust on it, wilting my clones. The water was still 68F though lol.

It might as well say active aqua on it. I'm just saying I had a bad experience with mine.

Yes, it's true Corps. have no regard for your time/revenue/productivity lost due to labor learning curves in China, but they (my dealer) will replace it should it fail.

What do you mean? I know they look alike. Dont mean shit. Hyundai genesis symbol looks like a bentley symbol. When the 300c first came out it looked like a rollys royce phantom.

It did have me pose the question to the mfg.

They appear to be American. But I asked to find out.

I have been looking at the JBJ Arctica water chiller specs and they dont provide how many degrees they can drop say in X gallons of water. Is there an easier way to understand BTU/hr without having to do my own custom calculations to get an estimate on how many BTUs/hr I'll need for my particular system? They mention the capacities being a lot higher than the cheapo hydro chillers but Im also under the impression that most people w/reefer chillers run their chillers anywhere from mid 70's to low 80's. I would need more like 65-68 degrees obviously. Can these JBJ chillers handle the capacity they claim by dropping the overall temperature 15 degrees Fahrenheit. I know there are other heating factors that play into it but I'm just looking for a ball park idea.

Youd have to do a heat calc. A grow room is a lot hotter than an aquarium room. Higher wattage and hotter lights will add more heat to the water. Also coool aquarium water is 75F. Thats considered warm for hydro.


Get your system running for a few days with lights on and get the temp of your water.

Mine is about 75F so I need a delta t of 10F.

This way you have existing conditions to base calcs off of.

JBJ claims 3000BTU/hr heat removal at 6A. They also claim this is very efficient. Doesnt sound it.

Aquaeuro is 3200BTU/hr at 3A

Active Aqua is 2400BTU/hr out of 3A

But this could be companies exaggerating. Not like that doesnt happen

I just used a general guideline. I'm not an expert on chillers or anything. I used a 1/10th for about 30 gallons. When a fan shut off and room over heated for about 24 hours, somewhere in the high 90s, I walked in and it was extremely hot and there was a huge puddle on the floor. For an instant I though it was a leak. Then I looked all the res's were sweating and dripping with condensation and water temps were just where still 68.

Im using my 1/10hp to chill 8site- 8gal insulated undercurrent in my veg room. Only 2k watts but I can bring water temps down to 55f.

Owner has been working in the commercial and small aquarium chiller industry for over 3 decades. Company is only 12 years old.
