Washing buds?

So some guy at the grow store told me he washes his buds to get all the dust and stuff off from his plants he grows indoors says he uses room temperature r/o water and either sprays them or dunks them gently than dries using normal methods. Does anyone do a similar thing to their harvested buds?

I'm super careful with the dried buds until they hit the jars. I want ALL of the trichomes on the plant that I can obtain. No washing for me...
I could see doing a GENTLE wash before harvesting, but that's all.

Noooo

You need to keep the buds clean in the first place, hepa filters etc. Easy enough to keep a tent clean ....

.this does not work well.
From my experience or theoretically

Depending what they mean by washing.
Iv washed them by spraying gently with room temp water until it runs off. Even when you have been careful the whole grow you will always get some dust on them from the grow medium.
Good thing all the stuff we want is water proof being oil based so you dont lose any strength.

Iv also recent started doing water curing with 1/4 of my harvests. The first time you change the water its always got some bits.

Now if your talking about washing it with dish washing liquid, freezing cold or boiling water then you will be reducing strength since that will wash oil away.

The trichomes will easily break off. If youve ever made bubble, water hash whatever its called youll notice no agitation is required for some trichs to fall.
Any dust etc that has collected over the course of the grow is literally attached to these sticky trichs and cant be easily removed. Especially since its inside the nugs as well...

And the desired compounds are NOT oil based. Most of the flavor fir example is water soluble to a large degree

But. Sometimes its good too see for yourself

Ive ruined a couple harvests attempting to do this outdoors.

Man lol, and this is extreme. But i had about 1000 acres burn down on my ranch one year (common) all that ash covered my buds. You couldnt tell till you tried to break down a nug and your fingers were black haha.. it sucked

Looks like Jorge Cervantes says otherwise .

Thats because the ice water makes the oils harden and become brittle. Thats why you use room temp water to wash them.

Im after the cleanest product I can get. Thats why I have a carbon filter feeding into my tent. Another filter feeding from tent air to the fan and some mesh on the back of the fan.
Each filter collects quite a bit on it over the 24 week cycle but there is nothing you can do about the dust that is kicked up from the grow medium if your using soil or perlite. My washing is no where near as rough as the video. Could even go as far as saying its a lot more gentle then had the plant been out doors and gotten rained on which is how they naturally get washed.

But each to there own.
This is exactly the same as the on going debate about watering curing. Youll have both on either side set in there way so your better off trying things out yourself with a small quantity to see if you like it.
I myself am a fan of it. but I also enjoy the taste so I only water cure 1/4 of what a harvest and save that stuff for when im out in public since it has no smell or taste. You can smoke it right next to some one and they will believe you when you say its herbal tobacco.

Here is the end result im getting after being washed and dried.

Great post thanks so much for your knowledge , just finished my first wash yesterday morning, fan on it all day yesterday and all night, no mold , no negative effects so far , just bud without the powdery mildew I grew on it unfortunately. Fixed my temps/humidity for next grow but I will continue to do a gentle wash to remove dust an dirt that kicks up from my containers. Thanks to all that posted , that Jorge Cervantes video was great as well, I used the h2o2 diluted solution like he did and got a lot of scummy stuff on top of my h2o2/water mix just from a very gentle dunk.

I imagine if you have good airflow, your plants shouldnt be still enough to collect dust.

man growers who grow "outdoors" will submerge the entire buds into clean water...this removes a lot of dust and other unwanted particles...doing it right at harvest time is very beneficial and will not wash off or harm trichs. doing this with dry bud or close to dry would interrupt ur curing process and perhaps ruin ur harvest

No they don't
You obviously are a beginner dude@qwizokinhg watch Ed Rosenthal and Kevin JudRey on youtube at the 2013 emerald cup discussing "curing"....Kevin is a highly respected "MASTER" grower...do ur homework kid before you EVER try to contradict me...i dont post just to sound smart. I post my insight based off of diligent homework...maybe you should do the same. And dont for one second act like you know more than Kevin...he's more learned about growing than most and highly respected as a master...

Yes im sure he's more learned. Thats terrible practice, and ive never met an outdoor grower who does the same. Lol at you saying im a beginner, i know more about weed than both of them cats. Name dropping has never meant anything. Doesnt matter who said it, its terrible practice. But keep doing that to your buds, just helps competition

Im not in a competition, was only giving sound advice from what i have learned from MASTER GROWERS and from personal experience. Some methods, practiced the same gives different results at times with each individual grower...if you truly know more than these dudes, then i would love to learn from you as well. Your response "no they dont" warranted me name dropping since these men are undisputed masters at growing...i would love to watch ur videos or read ur books one day....you should share like these men, who you know so much more than!

I really should.
Ive been told to write a book, ill make sure you get a copy.

And the competition i was referring was crappy outdoor buds get shipped to texas for low prices, local growers wont have nearly as much to compete with if it was all washed first

I know lots of outdoor growers, none do this. And not new folk..hence my, no they dont
