was out side mowing the grass,2 cops

Im in a non medical state,pretty tough on weed.I was outside mowing,here come 2 state troopers,looking at the house in front of mine,and my house.I was polite and asked if I could help them.They never replied and kept looking,(for a vent coming out of the house i assume).
After seeing my vent(it blends into the house really well.and looks like stove vent),which is clearly odorless,(the plants were less than a month old).,one cop said,I smell marijuana.Ha,no surprise he said that.He also pointed out,that I had one room covered,so he could not peek into.
So,what do you do here?...clearly some asshole turned me in.I know who it was too,since his dumbass was recently arrested for stealing.He did not really know if I had plants or not,but the asshole suspected.
But anyway..snitched on..and the cops are here,.identifying themselves being with the local drug task force.what do you do?Both houses on the property are posted..no trespassing.

I was hoping for the best legal advice on how to proceed.The cops did not smell weed,despite what they said.Ive had people,in my house(family),and you can't smell it.
Based on the facts,and the search laws..what do you do?...they did not have a warrant.

You want some stoner kid on here to tell you the cops can't do shit so you can sleep better?

Here's a clue, if the cops say they smell weed that alone is enough probable cause. Doesnt matter if your grandma didnt smell it over Christmas or whatever. Even if the cops are lying is that going to be your argument in court? The cops lied but they found plants anyway?

Don't be naive and listen to BadDog. Hope you know a good, mj-friendly attorney off hand. Best bet is to get them on the phone and take their advice. Getting rid of the plants is a good idea if the 5-0 give you the space to do so.

If they came to your house looking for a vent, found one, and claimed it smelled like MJ (whether it did or not), you will be getting searched. I'd be damn surprised if they didn't park their butts right there and phone in for the warrant.

Good luck. Next time don't let people get a hint of what you're up to.

Missed a comma in there. Don't be naive, and listen to BadDog. My bad

Naive refers to OP's line of thinking like well they couldn't have smelled the weed, so they're lying if they say they do, therefore I can't get in trouble or it shouldn't be a big deal or even I can get it thrown out in court then. It just doesn't work like that. Cop doesn't have to show a whole lot to get a warrant, and if they choose to lie about smell you are not getting out of it by arguing that they couldn't have smelled it. BS technicalities aren't going to keep someone from going to jail.

I've been around quite a lot of people fighting cases in my life and it's a common sort of line of thinking and I get where it comes from, but reality is that the legal machine is stacked against criminal defendants at every level. If you find yourself in the cross-hairs get the hell out of the cross-hairs asap and lawyer up (so important to find a good one, can't stress that enough).

So cops come to your house without a warant and basicaly tell you they suspect you of growing?

If I were you, I'd imediately go inside and destroy all my plants (schred in a blender, cook in strong bleach, mix with some other highly oxidative reagent, flush with shitload of water), disasemble my grow room, carefully wipe all possible traces of any illegal activity and get a new hobby for a (long) while.

I really don't think you want to expose yourself to a very real risk of geting busted.

the minute them boys was out of sight i would be ripping shit sharpish, you have been rumbled/grassed get your shit together and find a new home, because you cannot do it there again.

Actually the last thing you want to do is flush anything, If they even suspect that they will take samples from your house trap, ceptic tank, or if your on sewerage from the nearst holding tank/pump station .

Blend it cook it oxidize it bleach, acid, base, most times the end result will still be a illegal substance

Get a HOT fire going and burn it ,if the fire is hot enouth their will be little smell , spread it on the lawn and water in

If they smell weed from your house that's probable cause, where I'm from the cops can come in WITHOUT a warrant if it smells like weed, get rid of the plant an just pack all your grow equipment up no point in getting rid of it, they can't arrest you for legal equipment!

Cops lie in court all the time. Since they already "smelled" pot, you should have asked, "really? - what does pot smell like officer?" ;-)_~
