Warm white 2'x2' LED panel using 3,600 5050 (5mmx5mm) LEDs

gc.jpg 12772023_10153574116051871_3042205446822367120_o.jpg Almost finished my little SMD project. still needs a little over a dozen red/purple strips and finito. Final specs should be around 240-300w @ 12v. Right now it is just glued to a thin sheet of aluminum, although something a bit more sturdy will likely be added to the backing because the aluminum is much too flimsy. Another issue is that it is difficult to get a stable current across that many LEDs. In total there are 10x5 meters (164 feet) of 300x SMD 5050. Here is what it looks like so far. will post more pics when final product is finished. cheers.

I look forward to seeing your results, I'm skeptical but I'll follow along and see what happens!

I really dont understand this,it seems a pretty inefficient way to build a grow light, but heh who knows might work...just seems like alot more work than nessesary.

It looks effective bro but I would rather make it warm and cool 3:1. I use cob leds now since 4500K smd leds are so hard to find.

Hey, can anyone answer me this: Is there any significant difference between using a single 100 watt LED and using 100x1 watt LEDs if the total lumens produced are the same and the efficiency is the same? Is there some advantage to a single larger source of light rather than many small sources of light?

I tried a couple China made panels with 50 diodes per panel. 1w surface mount with little reflectors. Cute. Best I could tell running around half watt each. I was going to clone with it. I built a 4 cob vero 29 setup. Running each at around 20w. Works great. I don't use the small panels anymore. Just wasn't enough light. Ymmv
