thanks for the info, can you elaborate on metadata
Do you know anything about Tor browser or the dark web?(Alphabay, Silk rd, Pirate Bay etc)
do you have any more info about how to anonymize my ip and local ?

metadata is embeded in images from the device that took the image.
Basically covers all the information on the format, colour space, compression, resolution. Then with later devices that have built in GPS (Phones) they include GPS data.
Been lots of people busted by posting images that they took with the phone that didnt have the GPS location data wiped.

Or just be in a legal state but then you still have to worry about dodgy people getting that GPS locations and coming around to your place to rip you off.

All I can do is suggest you research EXIF metadata. That's the most common metatag format that goes along with TIFFs and JPEGs (I'm not sure about PNGs or GIFs). It can include all kinds of data, including latitude and longitude, in location-aware devices.

It's been a while since I've used TOR, VPNs, or IP proxy servers. But, you might ask at a security site, since those guys stay up on it. There are router changes you can make. But, they were always above my geek grade (ask a network sys admin). BTW...last I heard (2-3 years ago), TOR had been compromised, quite possibly by the NSA. The story of how that came about is intriguing. But, the bottom line is that no-one trusts TOR now.

Mate, try Hola [ http://bit.ly/2md8Zlh ]. It's a free VPN for Chrome. I used it for most of 2015, while overseas. It's a cool little browser extension that does not slow traffic anywhere near as much as some of the paid services I've used. It's super easy to start/stop and you can select what country you want to pass thru.

In terms of erasing metadata from images, search the Mac app store. There are free apps that will remove this kind of data from images.

Good luck.

ZenMate is a free VPN addon for Firefox, if that works on Macs. Only have to pay if you want faster speed. Only good when browsing with Firefox though I guess. For a full system VPN that stays on regardless of your browser I guess CyberGhost is pretty good and not that costly. I've used it before. Just got tired of making the payments.

I've been using TOR for a decade and the NSA hasn't come for me yet. No good if you want to do things like save videos and you get kicked off sites sometimes when it switches servers in the background but it's a lot better than it used to be. I keep it on a thumbdrive so I can use it on other computers without leaving traces on their machine.

For pictures make sure the location tracker is turned off on your phone or camera if it has that feature. If the pics are cropped and resized on a computer the metadata is lost. Plenty of free EXIF data viewers around so you can check your own pics to make sure there is nothing incriminating on there. Even the model number of your camera can be used to trace you if you bought it with a credit/debit card or sent in the warranty info.

If you purchase grow goodies with PayPal or through Amazon they are both known to hand over all that info to the authorities as a matter of course without them even asking for it. I wait until I can get to a store and pay cash.

:peace:

been using privateinternetaccess(PIA) & IPVanish for backup when one or the other has bugs for a few years now, found overall PIA is really good, plenty of settings to tweak & up to 5 devices allowed, good pricing too, the vpn is great too when traveling international so you can use servers in your home country to avoid signin issues with internet banking etc
oooops sorry...forgot you wanted free, anyway theres some info when you get some coin together!

To check a pic you can just left click and go to properties then details. There's a link at the bottom of that box that says "remove properties and personal information".

Vpngate.net is free. I generally use it in vmware. If super paranoid go to a free wifi location and use it, or tails os. Vmware player is also free to run virtual pcs. Hell, combine them all and never be found. . .
