I am currently doing research for my first grow. I am in Oregon and will have my med card soon. I can legally grow 4 plants but to start with am thinking of starting with 2. I am leaning towards trying the Jack horror strain, or possibly White Widow.

I have been reading forums/threads/sites etc for a bit and am slowly gathering tips and suggestions.

As of right now I am thinking about getting a 8x4 Gorilla or Secret Jardin tent. Two 1000w HPS lights. Going to try two stand alone home made Bubbleponic systems in 7 gallon tubs. Going to build two 3.5'x3.5' SCROG frames. I will probably get a small air conditioning unit as the summer has been a pretty hot one and the tent will be in the garage.

I know there arent too many specifics here. but does anything throw up a red flag so far?

I agree with dannyboy...most definitely go with 600w x 2.
Bubble buckets are a great start for a first timer...worked for me anyway.
600w for each plant, and room to grow; your plants are going to take off like a rocket! :hump:

Red flag? Absolutely. 2000 watts and a little ac.

Even with 2 600s your going to have to do it right. Air cool. And all that.

Look in my signature if you want to see a little of what i had to do for my 2 600s.

I'm running 2 x 600w myself, I would not like to do without my air cooled hoods
I'm thinking of breaking them down further to 3 x 400w, for improved light distribution since I can't add any more watts to my space

Same kind of set up before a recent upgrade. 4x8 is a nice size, but there's no way I'd use those lamps or wattage. Even with air cooling you're likely to have problems.
As a new grower you should go 2 x 600w hps (maybe dual spectrum) Withe that set though; just with a lower wattage.
In my opinion

I agree, I have run 3x600s in that space with air cooled. 600s are so cheap you can afford to use em and upgrade if the temps allow. Buying 1000s you may end up only running one of them, 1000s are expensive. Easy to upgrade after grow 1 if you really need
