Whats up all ... I posted this in " My Journals " but not sure if that is private or how that works yet, Im a bit computer stupid lol. If I posted twice , sorry !!!!! Anyway a few months ago after having a hell of a time finding anything good to smoke around my way these days I decided to come out of a almost 17 year grow retirement lol. I have grown many very successful outdoor crops throughout the years but due to my location that is no longer an option for me which is the main reason I stopped to begin with. After finding this forum and watching some Hydro grow videos I decided I was game to try the indoor / DWC grow which is a whole new chapter for me. I hooked up with TSSC and ordered me a few select genetics and started building the system and grow room. I started the grow the first of June but refrained from posting early pics since to me seedlings are not that impressive to me. Now that I have a plant instead of a seedling figured I would start this journal now ;) ...,,,

Grow Room : Stealth - 4' wide x 3' Deep x 6' High Closet Grow ( Flat White Painted )
Not much for ventilation other than open door with A/C room and fans and small 3"
emergency exhaust fan connected to a temp control timer so if room gets above 85
the exhaust will kick on until temp is back below 80. The best I could do to keep the
stealth :(

System :

1x 6-Gallon DWC with Water Farm Drip Ring ( Clay Rock Pellets For Medium )
1x DIY 32,000 Lumen CFL Fixture ( Mixed Spectrum 20 Bulbs )
2x 4' Side Lighting Units ( Total Of 6 Bulbs On Back Wall )
1x 150 watt HGT Supply Remote Ballast HPS With Winged Hood
2x Commercial Air Pumps ( One For Drip Ring - One For Res )
2x Timers ( One For Lighting , One For Drip Ring Feeding )
1x 8,000 BTU Room A/C Unit
2x Osculating Fans + 2 Small Clip Fans For Air Under Lights
1x 3' x 2' square PVC DIY Scrog Net

Nutrients & Supplements :

  • Dyna-Gro KLN
  • Dyna-Gro - Grow ( 7-9-5 )
  • Dyna-Gro - Foliage Pro ( 9-3-6 )
  • Dyna-Gro - Bloom ( 3-12-6 )
  • Dyna-Gro Pro Mag ( 2-15-4 )
  • Dyna-Gro - Pro-Tekt ( 0-0-3 )
  • Nutralife - SM-90

Genetics : Nirvana Northern Lights

( First Pic Taken - 3 Weeks Into Veg ) :

I was impressed right away as I have never had a plant grow so quickly, short, and bushy in just three weeks time in soil. I used to start my plants early indoors under florescent lighting then move them outdoors when weather permitted and they were big and strong enough to survive the elements. I was blown away on how fast the plant took off once the roots hit the nutes in the DWC.

( Veg - Week 3 LST ) :

When the plant grew it's fifth set of leaves ( 4th Node ) I Topped the plant , it was recovering good by week three so I started minor LST to try and keep an even canopy from the start and get the center of the plant a little more open to the light. At this time I was keeping the PPM's around 200-250 using nothing other than DG - Grow and keeping the PH around 5.8 - 6.1 and all seemed well no deficiencies or problems so I figure she was getting just what she needed for the time.

( Veg Almost Week 4 - Building and Testing Scrog ) :

As we were moving closer to one month I went ahead and built a Scrog and sized and tested it for later use. Just from the one topping and some minor LST this little plant was amazing me at how it was bushing out like it was without much effort I knew NL grow short and bushy but damn, I was liking this LOL. She was only around 6' Tall and was already hanging over the sides of the 6 gallon res bucket .

( Veg Going Into Week 5 ) :

One month has passed and she is looking pretty damn good to me, as I said I am not used to Hydro growing at all but it sure seems as if I was getting the hang of it quickly or the Fruit Gods were lending an unseen hand lol. I did raise the PPM's to 300 - 350 a few days before this pic when I did my weekly Res change and gave her some SM-90 just to be safe on the root end of things and also started introducing the Pro-Tekt. I also topped her one more time several days before this pic was taken. I noticed a little burning on leaf tip or two so decided to drop the PPM's back down a bit on the next res change, I wasn't to bad so I did nothing immediately except watch to see if anymore tips were being affected.

( Veg Week 7 - Topped, LST'd, Super Cropped ) :

Here we are now into week seven I Super Cropped a couple of times in the past couple weeks to fill in some of the smaller center branches and to keep her spreading. Right now she is about 9" tall and close to 2 and a half foot wide with many new shoots popping up from the LST and Super Cropping. Truly becoming a little bush. Upped the nutes to full strengths now and am shooting for 400ppm on my res changes for the time being,. I dont want to give her anything more than what she needs ;-) so I am being gentle on the nutes. Still feeding Pro-Tekt each res change as well as a little K-L-N , SM-90 and now moved up to the Foliage Pro instead of the Grow nutes.

( Veg Week 7 - Beat Down !!!! ) :

This pic was taken not long after the one above ( same day ) .. I did some high LST if that makes any sense lol, I just started bending her all down trying to open up the center again for more light penetration and to allow the smaller growth to catch up. Also some of the main shoots are tied down in this pic as well. I did a very small lollipop on her as well and opened the bottom up nicely I am very happy with the way the canopy is already taking and keeping that flat form even before being put under the scrog. Anyway that is where we are now... I welcome any comments , suggestions, positive or informational criticism lol...As I said I a old head outdoor 15 Gallon Muck Bucket Soil Grower .. This whole indoor all the way DWC thing is brand new to me so I am always welcome and happy to learn more, consider suggestions, and even compliments are nice ..LMAO !!! But seriously I am debating on how long to Veg her ...I am looking to yeild as much as I can ( time is not an issue ) however I don't want to over do it and get her root bound during flowering so I am constantly monitoring that as well. One more thing for the Guru's of this whole new technique I am taking on here .. Is this normal to be doing this well with growth with what I am doing and all or did I have an unknown gift of moving to another totally new way of growing without what seems to be any issues what so ever ? I was expecting this to be much more of a hassle than what I am used too, but after seeing this I don't think I will grow any other way again..But we will see come harvest I guess :bigjoint: ... Thanks for Checking It Out All ..Peace , Keep Er Green !!!!!!

I have always admired how fast hydro grows plants. I've heard when things go bad in a mix of nutrients in hydro they develop their problems very fast. It sounds like you are on top of the feeding system in DWC as there is proof in your pictures. Enjoy your new way of growing - who knows I might try it someday too.

I have a overwhelming want to top all the new top shoots one more time and create a monster full of shoots and bud sites, but I am worried that might be too much and I will reduce overall bud size ..any suggestions on how many times to top without sacrificing bud size of the harvest? I have heard that too much topping will cause many more "smaller buds" .. I want lots of buds of course but not all small ones lol

I had a plant about 5 years ago that I had topped alot to keep it lower... I produced over 100 buds... I the buds were tiny but the plant did what I wanted training wise. She gave out about 8 oz. so it was okay in the end.

Cool thanks 4 the info Final Phase ... One more topping will only make 3 times so I should be ok then I am thinking.

Just make sure to clean all that up on the bottom!!!! She Looks really healthy you're killing it right now
Thanks Patch .. Put her in the Scrog yesterday and started it's training. I just trimmed allot of of the shaded shit under the canopy right before I read this ;) ... Once she was in the Scrog I also noticed some big ass " Shade Leaves " that were blocking new shoots from the light so I also removed a lil foliage to allow more light to the new growth. Also I had one of my topped super cropped branches go wrong and would not recover so I topped that one shoot again as well as a few of the middle ones that were dominating to allow everything else to even out... Thanks for the feedback

Just took this of the bottom clean-up... Once she gets a little better coverage in the net I will continue with lollipop , just didnt want to take too much too soon just yet .. This is best pic I could get from the bottom..Ill follow this pic with a regular view may show the cleaning a bit better ..........

Not so big after the lollipop ..but she will grow on ;) ... Wondering now if I should do the big switch Aug 1st as planned or allow to veg a lil longer to get the screen filled up? I hear once I start the 12/12 I will get the streach I am waiting for to fill the screen? Open to suggestions as always bongsmilie

Quick Note : Anyone growing Nirvana Northern Lights ( Regular Seeds ) .. I cloned twice to sex and tried a 12/12 for over a month " With Roots " and No show :( ... So I took another rooted it and placed in 5 days of total darkness hoping 2 force it 2 show , still no show... Week # 8 Pre-Flowers stared to appear all over as well as the same with two friends of mine exact deal almost. I would think it is safe 2 say to expect @ least 8 weeks on this strain 2 see any pre-flowers. If it were just my run I would not make this assumption , but since 2 others have had same time frame for showing sex , I figured it would be worth tossing the info out there so others aint checking day after day for weeks of disappointment ;)

I just went ahead with Scrog n all anyway since I almost knew my hunch it was a female was correct..I have never seen a male grow at that rate and branch and bush like she did ..so I kind of expected a her anyway... But definitely was not a willing plant to show sex early... But I was right from my assumption of her looks , TG i was right cause it was in the Scrog b4 I even knew ..just went on my prior experience of seeing m / f plants , made it even a lil more shady not having another to compare too ... I guess I lucked out ..Naaaaa U can just tell I believe once you see enough of them .. I am sure many will agree :weed:

Made a big mistake this week while changing a power cord I turned off my air pumps and forgot to turn them back on. The plant went approx 12+ hours without any oxygen to the res. Once I noticed I immediately removed her from the Scrog and took the net pot out of the res for her to get some oxygen to the roots quickly while I cleaned the res and changed out the nutes and water encase anything nasty was starting to form from the lack of oxygen to the water. I added some Pro-Tekt silicate and SM-90 to my res with the fresh nutes and TG all seemed to be just fine and she is still growing well without any issues. I was really worried I may have did some damage but all seems ok. This pic was taken 2 days after this almost disaster and she seems fine as we are almost ending week 8 of Veg. Going to continue to watch her for another week and see how much more she grows before deciding to put her back under the Scrog and do the big flip. Part of me wants to do the switch soon , while another part of me wants to veg her out a bit longer , guess we will see ;-)

27 Days since the switch to 12/12 starting to get bud sites all over  . When I bought my genetics I made sure I got Regular rather Feminized so I could create my own seeds and not have to worry about buying more. Since I am only growing one plant at a time and I got lucky with my first seed popping a female I decided I would take advantage and create some feminized seeds from her. I didn't want to pollinate mom so I took a clone and used a mineral spray I bought to promote pollen sacks on a female plant on one of the clones branches. A couple of weeks later she started to produce pollen sacks. I am going to use that clone to breed my fem seeds and leave mom so her thing without seeding her that way I can still have my sensimilla from mom and have a nice feminized seed stock of her genetics for future runs. I found the mineral spray on eBay 2 for $15 , cheaper than one bottle of TIRESIAS MIST and it worked great !!!! :bigjoint:
