Very close.. a couple questions

Hi All,

Thanks for all the help, I wouldnt be about to harvest a very successful crop w/o the help on here. I am at 7 weeks, about 75% of the hairs are orange and things are filling out but I had a couple questions before I cut.

1. Most of my fan leaves are very yellow/burnt/brown. Can I cut them off now so light reaches the buds?

2. I water about 1.5 times per week and just started my flushing last night. I have included 1/2 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses during waterings for the past 4 weeks. Should I continue adding this molasses during the 2 week flush period?

3. Throughout this entire grow I noticed that the PH coming out of my pots (soil) was a little on the low side. What is the best way to adjust pH of a soil when a plant is already in there? (this is for future grows).

4. Is a 48 hour dark period before harvest really that good? I read a threat about it and lots of folks said they said a difference. Anyone who reads this done it?

Thanks guys!

I think most of your questions are all debatable, personally.

1. A lot of people will say go for it. It's late enough in the game that it won't do anything. Some will say no because then the plant will use energy to try and fix/replace what is now missing and it can slow your overall flower production.

* I personally say remove them. More light is going to equal more growth, period.

2. This is also debatable because a lot of people will say to flush a certain amount of time before harvest. Other very prominant growers on this site say that flushing doesn't do jack for taste, etc.

* I haven't grown in soil for almost a decade and I couldn't tell you anything about mollasses. I was just adding my 2 cents about flushing.

3. Refer to my statement above.

4. This is debatable too. Honestly you will get people that swear by it and others that will argue it's validity all day.

* I just got one question... Does Mother Nature go to 2 days of full darkness before the end of this plant's life cycle? NO... So why would you do it?

Hope this gave you some help and insight.

Thanks for the help bro. Regarding your last point.. does hydroponics exist in Mother Nature? No.. we find all kinds of little tricks to increase certain traits of the plant that we desire. On my next run I will do a comparison to see how it works. Thanks again

exactly... i think ppl need to learn to be a lil more open-minded... also i dont think mother nature prunes her plants either... infdjedi, in regards to your question about the 48 hours of darkness.... im gonna do it... if it doesnt maximize potency then whatever.. you wont be losing n e thing by trying... but if you do try, i wouldnt cut n e of those fan leaves off because thats all that your plant is going to be using for energy, is the stored energy in the fan leaves since there's no light... the PH problem could be solved simply by using a higher a water with a higher ph then what youre using to water with normally until run-off is where you want it..

1. Dead plant material, doesn't photosynthesise. I remove leaves as they die.

2. There's no reason to continue with molasses. There's plenty residual in the soil.

3. Your low PH is probably due to the Molasses. It's very acid. I wouldn't try to correct it this late in the game.

4. After experimenting with the 48 hour dark period, I've some to the conclusion it's a total waste of time, and an invitation for mold. Try to harvest in the morning, and when the plants are thirsty. :joint:

haha i still dont understand why ppl say it a waste of time.. all you are doing is turning your lights of the last 2 days BEFORE you harvest.. there for it would be the same as leavin the lights on... a good way to prevent mold would be to water a couple days n advance before turning the lights off so it has a lil time to dry up... circulation would also be a plus... i agree with green cross about the molassis thing, but i think the leaves should stay on the plant until the plant is ready to drop em.. mayb givem a lil flick and c if they come off, but if not ready, leave em. they could be helpin ur buds grow when youre flushing without nutes in the end....

You are correct on your point. Except that when you are using hydroponics, you are still trying to emulate Mother Nature as closely as possible with the correct nutrients, additives, minerals, etc. You are just replacing soil with water. Turning out the lights completely though does not emulate nature at all. (Unless there's a full eclipse, lol.) Do what you want and expirament for yourself, that's the beauty of it all. I just wanted to give you my 2 cents because you asked for help and opinions. Happy Harvesting bro.
