Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

Oh nice I love that type of high too. I've been wanting to try blue dream, Girl Scout cookies and gg4, I'll probably order some Girl Scout cookies seeds and blue dream soon, not sure how I'll get gg4 but I'll ask around and see if anyone has any cuttings of it. Is your led driver on top of your cab? I'm thinking of putting mine on top to give me some more head room if I need it, and help keep the temps down since It'll be inside in my closet. What temps are you running?
I've got my driver hanging on the back of the cabinet to help keep heat down. I'm really at the mercy of the weather regarding my cabinet temps, since i'm growing in a garage with no heat or AC. It can get in the mid-90s in the cabinet on a hot day, which is not ideal but the plants have adapted. IMO it's no different from outdoor growers in NorCal growing in the 100+ degree heat. I do dim the lights about 25% on a hot day though, to help keep the COBs cooler. This week we've had mild temps so I've been able to run the lights on full power and the cabinet temps are in the low 80's.
GG4 can be a tough cut to find even in Cali - it's around, but you have to know where to look. I know it's spread around the country - if you can find a cut in Alaska I'd grab it for sure.

I'm hoping someone out there who has grown some Sour Diesel before can help me - my Sour D has been in flower for about 2 weeks, and there is zero smell to her at all. She's been a bit of a problem child - slow growth compared to the other clones i have, and she's never had any odor. The SD is still small compared to the other 2 plants, but she's pushing out some small buds. When I rub my fingers on a bud or leaf I get zero smell from her. I'm worried I may have gotten some shit genetics from the dispensary. I bought the Fire OG from the same place on the same day, and she's flowering great and is getting stinky. Sour D is supposed to be one of the stinkiest plants around and mine is odorless. Even when I pruned a couple small fan leaves from the bottom of the plant and crinkled them up and smelled there was no smell.

I'm thinking about giving her another week, and if the SD is still odorless I may pull the plug on her and replace her with another Satori that's in the veg cabinet. I don't want to wait 10 more weeks and end up with bud that smells like hay. What you guys think? I googled 'No smell from Sour Diesel plant' and it seems others have had this problem in the past, and it was from shitty clones.

Start of flower week 3 update:
DSCN2658.JPG

Things are beginning to get interesting in the flower cabinet. I've had to lower the shelf 3 times this week to accommodate the stretch on the Fire OG (on the right) - she's almost tripled in size since the start of flower, and is looking great. Fortunately I think she's mostly done stretching.

On the left is the Satori, and she finally got the memo that it's time to flower. She's doubled in height and has begun to form some buds on her 4 main stems. I cut out some of the lower budsites that would have just crowded the grow space in return for some popcorn buds, I want the plant to focus energy on the 4 main colas.

The Sour Diesel in the middle is still the runt of the litter, but in hindsight I blame myself for this. She didn't have the root development needed to be put under high intensity Vero 29s, and I think the lack of nutrient uptake was cooking her early on. If she'd had a couple more weeks in veg I think she'd be competing size with the other 2 plants. Too late to change that now - fortunately she has roots poking out near the bottom of the smart pot, and is looking much healthier than before. She is also developing a little bit of funky fuelish smell when I rub her stems, so I think she'll put on some stank later on in flower.

My shit luck with clones continues - I had 2 Satori, 1 Fire OG and 1 Blue Dream cuttings in rapid rooters under a CFL in the corner of my living room, and they were looking great. Unfortunately 2 nights ago, my dog decided to turn all but 1 of the clones into chew toys in the middle of the night. I woke up to find the 3 clones dead in a pile on the floor. I didn't expect this since my dog is really old and mostly spends her time sleeping and pooping in random locations around the house - she doesn't chew stuff normally. So, since i was restarting some clones I decided to build a DIY bubble cloner. I had most of what I needed except a container, air hose and an air stone. I moved the lone surviving Satori clone along with 2 new cuttings from the flowering Fire OG into the bubble cloner last night, and they look pretty happy this morning. I've blocked off the area from my dog to prevent another clone massacre.

The girls are looking good man they've exploded in the last week hope they're done now tho. Damn thats a bummer about your dog getting into your clones, the bubble is awesome makes it way easier to clone and don't have to spray them all the time, I have a areoponic cloner that I bought off amazon for a good price and I love it, I feel roots in 7-10 days and can usually plant them in two weeks. I finally got my cabinet all finished up and running now and posted a thread about it too, pretty amped on it.

Nice job on the cabinet nv! I mentioned this in your thread, but I was pretty amazed this week at how plant transpiration can keep cabinet temps down even in hot environments like my garage. It hit 106 today in my neighborhood, and a thermometer i have in the garage was reading 105 at one point. About 4 feet away in my grow cabinet with the doors slightly open, the thermometer was reading around 90 degrees, so the plants were cooling the cabinet an amazing 15 degrees. I took a couple pics to prove I'm not crazy lol, although it's gotten slightly warmer in the cabinet than it was earlier today. The first thermometer pic is from a temp controller I have on an upright freezer that I use for fermenting batches of home brews. The temp probe is exposed to the garage air, the second pics shows temps in the cabinet, which is a few feet away.

I'm also doing some tinkering with some far red LEDs I got today, to build a flower initiator. I ordered 2 2-packs of Far Red LEDs and a Meanwell LDD-300HW LED Driver from LED Group Buy via Amazon. The only problem is the morons shipped 1 pack of Far Red LEDs and 1 Pack of 435nm blue LEDs. I contacted Amazon, and hopefully they'll just ship another 2 pack of the Far Reds. I'm also waiting on a 12 volt timer (thanks JavaCo for sharing the timer on your thread) to ship in from China, and I can get everything wired up. The whole setup will be powered by a 12v 1amp wall wart power supply - it will power the digital timer, which will turn on the driver which can run up to 3 3v LEDs when supplied with 12volts. The LEDs are shit quality, but I don't care about efficiency when they will run for less than 10 minutes a day.photo.JPG

I'll do a proper plant pic update with the lights on tomorrow, but here's a couple after lights out. The stretching and bud formation continues on day 21 of flower.

Also, I was bored so I decided to post a few pics from around the yard. Pics from the vegie garden include cantaloupe, bell peppers, and Thai chilis. We also have about a dozen different fruit trees around the yard, so I included pics of pomegranate, apples, chocolate persimmons, and lemons. Finally, a pic of the front flower and rose garden (the wife loves the flower garden - I prefer my cabinet garden flowers).

The cannabis girls are looking awesome dude. Nice outside garden too. I'll be doing a update on mine on Friday. I flipped to flower on the 1st so they're only 5 days in so far they're stretching like crazy I'm gonna have to tie down my nevilles haze.

That lemon kush you chopped looked great - it looked like a shrub. Which I could grow a few of those kind of shrubs around my yard.

Here's a pic of the girls with the lights on - day 22 of flower:
I was slightly concerned when I added blue LEDs to my light that it might impede the stretch of the plants too much during flower - this is something I'm no longer worried about. The Fire OG started off at around 6 to 7" tall, and has now stretched to 24", almost quadrupling in height, and she is supposed to be the most indica leaning strain in the mix (50/50). The Satori has more than doubled in height and is still stretching some, as is the dwarf Sour Diesel in the middle. I'm expecting the stretch to finish over the next week and then the ladies can start bulking up. The Fire OG is already getting pretty frosty and sticky - I can't wait to see what she's going to look like in another 6-7 weeks.
I detected a hint of Pine Sol smell after rubbing a Sour Diesel bud, so I'm still optimistic she'll get stinky later in flower. If not I've got a different SD clone in veg and can do another run with her later on, and grow it right this time. Too many complications early on with the SD in this grow, although the SD is looking pretty good now despite the small size.

Flower day 27:
Let's get ready to rummmmblllle...
In the blue corner is the 1mm long thrip - a shitty little creature intent on sucking the life out of my mj plants
thrips-marijuana-plants-1.jpg
In the red corner is the formidable bacteria Spinosad, whose only purpose in life is the wreck the nervous system of insects.
DSCN2694.JPG
And here's where the battle is taking place... mostly on my Satori leaves, but it's spread a little bit to the other plants as well. Ding Ding Ding
DSCN2687 small.jpg

I realized this week I had thrips, which isn't surprising since my grow cabinet is right next to the door leading to my veg garden, so any pest that finds my outdoor garden can wander into the garage grow cabinet too. At first I thought it might be some kind of mineral buildup on the leaves, but after looking under a 40x scope I was able to spot one of the bastards along with some eggs. I've read good things on spinosad though - safe, even on flowering plants, fully organic, and it sounds like many people were able to eliminate thrips with one spraying.

Here's a view of the cabinet with the lights dimmed, prior to spraying. The stretching has mostly stopped, except the damn Fire OG keeps creeping higher. I had to train it back away from the LEDs or the buds would have fried themselves into the cob. Bud development is good. The Fire OG is super frosty and sticky already, and the Satori is starting to get frosty on the new bud growth. Still not much smell from the SD, but I'm trying to remain optimistic that the smell will come eventually lol.
DSCN2685.JPG
Here's a few more pics of the girls outside the cabinet after getting a spinosad spraying
DSCN2690.JPG DSCN2691.JPG DSCN2693.JPG

I also had to do a full restart of my flower initiator project. The cheap LEDs and 300ma driver weren't put out enough light to even notice they were on, even after lights out. I just got in a 700ma driver and Cree XPE 720nm leds from RapidLED, and hope to start mounting LEDs and wiring stuff up tonight. I'm still waiting on the timer though, which is on a slow boat from China (thanks Amazon), so I won't be able to finish it until the timer arrives.

Yeah the lemon mush turned out really good, making bubble hash from 3oz of her than make rosin out of that. Holly crap your girls have stretched out a ton, I hope mine don't, I just turned up my ballast to full power last night to help reduce the stretch. Damn sorry about thrip hope you can kill them off and keep them away. Awesome grow so far tho. Mine are just now starting to show bud sites I'm pretty stoked they're loving the veros tho super healthy and growing like crazy I'll have to lst them some more tho.

Did you have the far reds running full time during lights on? I was just planning to turn on the far reds for 8 minutes immediately after lights out to mimic the sunset, which is supposed to make the plants 'sleep' quicker. I've read a few threads about it, but this one has a lot of info on the concept ( https://www.rollitup.org/t/the-far-red-thread.867665/ ). By triggering the plant to sleep faster, you can run the lights longer (13/11 or more) during flower, and it is supposed to cut time off of the flowering cycle (some have said up to a week). It's why outdoor plants can start flowering with 14 hours of daylight - the far red at sunset induces the plants to 'sleep' 2 hours quicker.
If you were using the far reds in the same way I am, then I might have to rethink using the flower initiator, since I don't have room for stretchy, skinny bitches lol.

Heh, it's funny you ask, since the 2 clones I took off the flowering Fire OG look like dogshit and I was planning to add them to the compost bin today. They did start to show root nubs and I may be able to get them to survive, but they looked so shitty that I picked up a OG Kush cutting from a dispensary to use instead of the Fire OG. So my answer to your question is no, lol.
I used to be good at cloning stuff, but haven't had good luck lately. I think I may have had my light too close to the bubbler too, so that doesn't help. Even the clones I took from veging plants are taking me 2 weeks to show roots. Last night I light proofed my bubble cloner with foil tape, and also moved the light higher from the plants. I also had the plant stems touching the water in the bubbler when I think they are supposed to be 1/4" above the water so the water splashes up on the stems. So long story short, my cloning skills are a work in progress...

How are you making rosin - do you have one of those presses or are you using butane? I have some bags for collecting ice water hash that I used in the past, and will probably use them with my plant trimmings from this run, but I don't know shit about rosin or even how you smoke or vape it. I understand it's supposed to be a different high than with flowers, so I'm interested in learning more.
I saw your last update and your girls look happy. The Fire OG cut I have must have a lot of sativa genes in her since she keeps on creeping upwards. I'm just letting the tall buds grow up alongside each side of the light though - buds are just getting some of the stray photons that shoot sideways out of the cob, so even though the buds are just a few inches away, they are not getting bleached or damaged being that close to the light. The Satori did a normal 2 week stretch and then mostly stopped. Hopefully you don't have any creeper strains, but if you do just train the tall buds away from the cobs.

I'll be using a hair straightener for now till I get good at it than I'll invest into a big press and start making it from that. Your just milking the tricomb heads of there oil by pressing them with low heat you can do it with flower, bubble hash, keif, dry sift or any kinda hash really. It makes a shatter type of wax just like guys are making with butane. But rosin is solventless so you don't have to purge it and you don't have to worry about any Nasty chemicals and you just dab it like you would with bho. They call it the BHO killer it's like the organic way of making concentrates and you don't have the risk of blowing yourself up haha. I haven't tried any yet but I hear is good cuz you can keep the terps from the plant unlike bho.
Yeah im sure she has a lot of sativa in her since how much she's stretched. Next time you should scrog I'm going too after my party cups finish. That's good they aren't bleaching hopefully they won't. I haven't had any bleaching from any of my cob light but than again I'm only run I them at 700mA but my big panel will go with 1.4mA I thing to make. 600w to cover my 5x5 tent.
Here's some videos of a guy that makes it and is well known for the bubble bags.

Here's a thread about it.

https://www.rollitup.org/t/rosin-tech.869445/

And if you google rosin tech there's a bunch of stuff that come up. It's new up coming way to make chemicaless shatter its badass .
I had some time to kill yesterday, so I watched your videos and did some reading on rosin. I definitely want to try it once I get some buds harvested. Looks like I'll need to pick up a hair straightener, lol.
What confused me was how to 'consume' the rosin once you've made it. I didn't understand the whole heated nail thing, until I found a Youtube video with a couple of dudes that were likely dabbing all day before making the video on how to heat the nail and do a dab. It was like watching Jeff Spicoli do a Youtube training video. I get how it works now though - I'll have to order a dab rig sometime soon. Any recommendations on where to order one from? I was looking at smokecartel.com and their stuff seemed decent.

Here's some Sunday morning bud pics, from day 32. I believe the thrips have been eliminated. No new leaf damage or signs of the little bastards.

Buds are looking awesome man, I'm not sure what a good place to get a dab rig I'm still very new to all of this bho and rosin stuff but I'm loving it so far I just have a cheap pen with a globe attachment on it, it sucks and I'll be getting a bong with a glass on glass piece so I can get a nail for it but still be able to smoke bud out of it too. I'm sure there's a lot of good sites if you google it. I'll probably go to a local glass stor this week and look around for one. Again nice buds they're looking nice.

Thanks about the buds, I'm pretty happy with them so far. The growing conditions the last few days have been pretty shitty, with temps over 100 outside again. The cabinet got a little over 90 today, but the plants don't seem to mind too much as long as I keep them watered. I hope the weather cools off in Sept for the last couple weeks of the grow so the buds can ripen in cooler weather and not foxtail on me.

I've also learned something this week - the reason for my early difficulties with my Sour Diesel plant and clones. One of the water soluable nutes I was using really knocked the ph down super low, like in the 4 range. SD seems to be pretty sensitive to ph, so when I've been feeding the plants it's been f'ing up the soil ph pretty bad. Most of the other plants tolerated it, but the SD did not, it was miserable. I learned all that this week after picking up a ph testing kit. After a few days of watering and feeding with the corrected ph nutes, the SD plant I have in veg looks better than it's ever looked, and the 3 plants in the flower cabinet look better too (the Satori had started dropping lower fan leaves, which I think was from the ph imbalance - it's stopped dropping them now). The Alaska Mor Bloom and I think the Alaska Fish nutes are the culprit. I think they make the Mor Bloom out of battery acid - I was shocked how little it takes to knock the water ph down to 4. I'm used to dry nutes mixed in the soil and have never had a ph issue with my vegetable garden since I mix in some dolomite lime to balance the soil ph. I know now that I need to check ph when using the liquid nutes or you can mess up your plants quick. I think this is why my clones have not done well either, since I've added small amounts of nutes to the clone water, and I think the ph was probably in the 4 range, which killed a few clones. I took some new cuttings this week and have them in rapid rooters with ph'd nutes, and the clones look perfect still after 3 days.

I was able to finish my far red flower initiator tonight too, since my 12v timer finally showed up. I think it was shipped via rowboat from Singapore, but it finally arrived. The project included the 12v timer relay from Amazon ($6), 3 - 720nm Far Red Cree XTE leds and 1 Meanwell LD-700HW from Rapid LED ($20), and a 3'x2" aluminum strip from Lowes ($12) to mount the LEDs on using thermal adhesive.I had the project box, wire, and 12v wallwart. The aluminum strip with the Far Red LEDs is hanging from the ceiling of the cabinet from some wire and magnets. The 12v wallwart powers the timer and the LEDs, which will come on for 8 minutes immediately after lights out. It was a pretty cheap project, and hopefully it will speed up the flowering cycle on this and future grows by extending the perceived dark period of the plants. It seems a little strange, but other veteran growers have had good results using similar Far Red setups, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm still running the lights 12/12 for the rest of this grow, but in future grows I'll probably try 13/11 or 13.5/10.5.
