I have decided to purchase an inexpensive Sun System Mini Sunburst 150 Watt - Mini Sunburst - Grow Light Reflector Kit - Digital Ballast - HPS Lamp Included - Mogul Socket - 120 Volt - PART # 900490........................ and attempt to grow 2-3 plants from seed to harvest.

The kit I ordered comes with the HPS bulb included but I ordered an additional MH bulb with the same mogul socket base and it is also 150 Watt and I am not sure if I can use it in place of the HPS.

Usually its marked on the balast.
I got simple balast and it can work with MH but the wires from the balast to the lamp should be short....
it does take longer to start MH.

MH generate more heat, it can cause problems in summer if you grow in closet

I am waiting for be delivered still but have been scouring internet seeing if this system will accept a metal halide bulb, half say no..half say yes but will void the warranty lol...so I guess I will have to wait until it arrives and see for myself what says on system.

I have a 600w on the way and will be running a blue MH from beginning to end..........
600w...nice I hope you good luck and success with your grow. I almost got a 400w system but figured I better start out small while I learn then maybe upgrade some if I can have success with small grow

Thanks, I am expecting it anyday now and will make sure I check it, I guess even if I cant switch back and forth between MH & HPS....I could just add some supplemental 6500k cfl's?

Got to do a little bit of work very quickly, it is obvious I have no clue what I am doing but I hope to learn in the process. I guess there will be alot of failure along the way, but I am hoping to have a bit of success too. I forgot to mention a couple points about my attempted grow. 1. I am growing in soil, a cheaper brand of mix I picked up at a national chain home improvment place....it is called sta-green flower and vegetable garden soil. 2. I am growing bagseed, and have no idea what to expect. Aside from that I was able to snap a couple quick photos.Alice 6 days old.JPG Alice 6 days old closeup.JPG Alice 6 days old.JPG Alice 6 days old closeup.JPG Barb 1 day old.JPG

HEAT is causing me a problem my temperatures inside are reaching almost 95 degrees so I think I am going to change my 18/6 cycle so my lights will be running through the night when the temperatures outside are a little more forgiving.

I removed the (4) 23w CFL's and my temperature stayed in the 81degree range through the night.

Gonna monitor the temperatures until noon and see how it goes when the outside temps start to push 90-95 degrees.

That's HID in Midsummer for you. Are you in a small tent? If so, get it out of the tent, or you should switch to LEDs. Also, if you wait until 90°F, you'll kill your plant. Keep it under 80 and above 70.

Great starting setup, you will have a lot of success with that light. I would suggest using a small computer fan that "pulls" air out of that area. That way you can get some of the hot stagnant air that's building out of there. Looking forward to your grow!

I grow in 150W HPS as well so Its nice to follow.
one bagseed is risk, u will also need long grow for one plant to fill 150W
one bugseed can be male, complete hermie, 150 days flowering time, crap potency... its lot of risk as you might lose month or two for nothing.
try to get more seeds, different bagseeds will do.
with 150W HPS you can grow easy 4 or even 6 plants

most of what I grow is random crosses or bug seeds, i dont have veg area so i only grow from seeds.
i usually start with 10 regular seeds or 4 female to fill 150W (around 75x75cm)

*from my experience bagseeds end up nice female, good luck

I am in a small closet right now but since joining here, I have learned about the grow tents that can be used. They seem really nice and depending if I can have decent succes with this closet grow....might upgrade to one of those nice grow tents I have been reading about.

View attachment 3732873 View attachment 3732875 I had some fairly successful grows with that lamp. If you want to grow three plants under it keep them small, I had trouble keeping one plant well lit under the 150w. View attachment 3732876
Wow, that is really great. If I could only be half as successful it would be satisfying. I have alot to learn and still doing alot of reading as I am getting setup. These forums are great with alot of helpful people and great info. Thanks for replying and feel free to follow along and comment with any useful tidbits you may have.

I have a bit more than just one bagseed, I should have specified I have bagseed going back almost 2 years with alot of "dont know what to expect " lol.....I think it is a few different "varieties"...sorry I do not know "strains" or any of that jargon yet,,,but an accurate statement would be, I have alot of bagseed seeds from different kinds of weed over the past couple years.

That light is really close to the seedlings lol. I'm amazed they aren't cooking. Seedlings don't need a ton of light ;)

Thanks, i am hoping to keep modifying it until it is they way it is supposed to be. you mention the computers fans and that is something I am currently working on, but I need some input....in the pic's I posted I have a fart fan installed, if you can view my pics I submitted in one of the pics you should be able to see it.

I have it secured there and it is being vented into the "attic space" behind that wall....it is supposed to be a 70cfm fan but it doesnt seem to help much with keeping my closet cool even with a small fan inside blowing.

My idea was to knock a whole in the wall (not very thick)...run a short pvc pipe and attach 2 elbows to each end, but the end inside the closet is gonna be attached to the elbow as such in a manner to blow air inside because the fan will be attached to it.....
