A two-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his mother in the US city of Milwaukee after finding a gun in the back of their car.

The woman, Patrice Price, had been driving a car owned by her security guard boyfriend who had left his gun in the car, her father Andre said.

Milwaukee police said she was shot once in the back while driving on a local highway on Tuesday morning.

Also in the car were Price's mother and her other son aged one.

Mr Price said she also had an older daughter, and described Patrice as "hardworking".

"Now I don't have her no more. My chest has been hurting," Mr Price told Milwaukee station WISN.

"I have a knot in my chest. They won't even let me see my daughter. I wanted to hold my daughter for one last time."

Last month, a four-year-old boy in Florida shot his mother, Jamie Gilt, in similar circumstances.

A gun had slid from underneath the front seat of the car to the back and he unbuckled himself to get it. Ms Gilt survived the shooting.

No..we don't need owner-only activated SMART weapons.

This is a perfect example of what is really happening..guns are so commonplace and there's no respect for what it can do..that dude just threw his gun under the seat like a spent soda can:wall:

Had it been a SMART gun, that person would still be alive like so many others. So negligent.

being ex military and a avid hunter i believe that theres nothing wrong with guns even if your a nut about it and have an armory in your house as long as your a smart nutjob that keeps them in a safe place where children cannot access them. Its just like owning a pitbull they are great dogs with bad reps but not to their own fault but the fault of negligent owners same goes for guns be responsible and you dont have these kind of accidents

This sounds more like the perfect example of survival of the fittest. :)

How dumb can one be to leave a loaded gun with a round in the chamber in a child's reach?

I do think we should have a mandatory gun safety course they teach gun safety in the mandatory hunter safety course without it I may not have learned as much about gun safety. I sure as shit won't have an accident.
