Up you Urban Gardening game! ️

Hey fellow urban and herban gardeners! ;-)

I came up with a simple and actionable infographic for city dwellers who want to grow fresh organic food but don't have the space, the knowledge, the money or the time.

Here are some tips to help you make it a reality!
Not is it only healthier, it also tastes much better.

Also, if you have some tips on how city dwellers can start an urban garden share them on this thread! (:

The idea is to create a thread with a lot of simple ideas to motivate more people to get into healthy urban gardening.

If I lived in town, I would be rocking the window sill flower-boxes.

@Dublin City Diesel. What kind of veggies do you have going?
Thanks for the cool tip Too Larry. Yes it's a great idea since, that way you wouldn't be using any of the precious space inside your apartment.

I'm growing some peppers (Jalapeno, Salsa, Mini Bell), Tomatoes (Tiny Tim, Tumbling Tom) and Aubergines/Eggplants under a 100w LED. and some mini carrots and bush beans behind the windows.

Cheers,

I lost my spot inside for sprouts, so I had to do a subterranean solar sprout chamber for my pepper sprouts out in the garden. I have Mammoth Jalapeno {from saved seeds}, Cayenne, Serrano, California Wonder Bells, and a few more I can't remember.

Next Sunday I will be planting green beans, cucumbers, Armenian cucumbers, okra, and acorn squash, as well as more peas, sweet corn and melons. Frost got my early planting pretty good.

My garden is close to 2 acres. Every year I swear I'm going to plant less, but I always do more than I can take care of.

Hey Too Larry!

I love the mini greenhouse that you built. Your seedlings look good too.

Since it is underground, does it insulate the plants against the cold better than with a traditional greenhouse?

2 acres, seriously? This is crazy! That's more than enough to feed a whole family isn't it?

Here is an update on my jalapeno growing under a 100w led.
I'm waiting for the fruit to turn red since I want to get the most vitamins.

I think @Dublin City Diesel is just up to posting external links.
Hey Blake,

I didn't think posting an external link that contributes to helping people was such a terrible thing for you to see.
By the way, I removed my signature tho it wasn't even a link.

I'm passionate about learning more and sharing that knowledge with other growers.
We are a small community of people who love to grow their own, learn about all the medicinal benefits and help others do the same. We are still seen as outcasts in most countries so the last thing we need is criticism within the community.

I invite you to look at all my posts since you seem so into me. You may find out that I did nothing but provide value to the forum.
If I get banned thanks to people like you, I'm probably not going to be the one who will lose the most.

On the other hand, I don't think gossiping provides a lot of value. However, if you decide to contribute to the thread, I will be more than happy.

Thanks. That is my 2nd one. I filled in the old one with used tomato soil and planted peppers in it last year. I did some test to see how much the greenhouse helped last week when we had several nights of frost. When it was 30F outside, the inside temp was 42F. That was covering it after sundown, so no help from the sun. Would jump up in a hurry if you did it before sundown.

I give away some veggies, but we put a lot in the freezer too. And melons, corn and peas take up a lot of space when planted in rows. If I did raised beds or something like that, I could grow just as much with a smaller foot print.

You peppers are looking good. Love that you have peppers already. I love the red peppers too, but when they start to get the rough skin, you should pick if they are red or not.

I just bought 3 Mammoth Jalapeno plants that are about ready to bloom. That is as close as I am.

Help please. Germing my first Okra ever. How should I prep the soil? Wide deep hole? Wide shallow hole? Skinny deep hole? Additives to soil (early)(when producing)? Water, how much, how often?

Okra likes hot weather. They will not really take off until the soil warms up. I've got lots of other seeds in the ground, but wait till April to plant my okra {here in NW Florida}.

Another Hot weather plant is Eggplant. A few years ago we went through a hard drought and I even stopped watering my Eggplant, Just couldn't kill the buggers!
I keep forgetting to plant eggplant seeds. I may end up buying a few seedlings from my local mom and pop place.

Put 4 germed Clemsons in ground today, have 2 Emeralds in water. Wish I had picked up some Louisiana spineless also. Heard soap & water for Stink Bugs dried out leaves? True? Will that work on the Aphids?
