Undercurrent build to grow Monsters!!!

Lookin good DubC

FYI, a tote half that size will work as well, and probably better, as smaller would reduce the amount of nutes needed to make a cycle

I use ~ 5g totes, but F & D

I have tried 5 gallon buckets before but I always outgrow them with a massive root ball and the ball seems to not be as healthy when it is crowded in the bucket. Also I am trying to keep my sites lower and more square so I can grow more vertical.
But yes I understand about the cycle process. I have had to use 4 turbo start bottles, each treats 40 gallons.

Some of this water is also going to be used to feed my tent undercurrent for mothers And my veg setup. I will be getting more fish next weekend to put in those 2 systems epicenter and top of the large setup with RO water.

Yeah buckets have too much vertical for roots

5g totes are rectangular and squat, like miniature versions of what you are using

The reason your fish died is more than likely due to one or a combination of these things:

1) Ammonia, Nitrite, or Nitrate was present in the water return to the fish tank. Mineralization through a biofiltration system that has to be cycled or established with a natural source of surface water, i.e. pond/lake/river, which metabolizes the fish waste (AH3) to Nitrites (NO2), which are still toxic to fish and plants. Nitrosomonas and Rhizobacteria metabolize NO2 to Nitrates (NO3), which we all know to be fertilizer. The plants use the NO3 and pure water is pumped back to fish tank.

2) Not enough Dissolvable Oxygen (DO). Put simply, fish can nestle in dead spots in the tank without proper circulation and aeration of the system.

3) Temperature and/or pH swings

I'm sure you have a great handle on your system from your pics. What do you think caused him/her to die?

I meant to reply to the dead fish posting on page 3. Anyways, badass setup, for sure! I'm gonna try it very soon on a miniature scale. Great work and thanks for all you do helping us out with pics and details.

I blame it on the stupid fish store associate. He sold me goldfish and rainbows and said everything would be fine. We'll they were not tough enough for the goldfish ammonia and prefer warmer water. When I went back to buy more the manager questioned the crap out if him and helped me find the right fish and told me about the turbo start. So far all 8 fish are doing well and seem happy.
In about a week or 2. 4 aquatic dwarf frogs I have is a small tank will be added.

Could I do basically the same thing OD if I own a pond stocked with various fish, and just put a bunch of air stones in the pond? Have some type of floating system to hold bucket mesh pots. Or a dough boy pool.

I'm thinking like maybe a dough boy pool with a bunch of fish, and then take several 55 gal drums and drill some holes in the sides of the drums, then fill them with lava rock or something, and put the lid on with a hole for the plant. Put some shade cloth over the pool to prevent the fish from jumping out and block some light from getting to the roots through the holes in the sides of the barrels. Let the fish swim around in the space between the barrels. Maybe even make a water fall to return water back to the pool which will aerate the water. Plus a decent air stone in the bottom of each drum.

I would build some nice rock or wood/cedar grow beds and line it with a pond liner. Then flood and drain that with water from the pond and something like a bell siphon.

Humm sounds interesting. Draw up a picture. You might not need any air stones it it is outside with a waterfall.

Ummm, okay I will try but I've got to warn you I'm no artist, haha. Laughs ahead lol.
This is pretty basic but kind of sums up the idea for the most part. Maybe instead of a water fall the return could just be that a pump, pumps the water up like 10 feet or something and then there is one pipe in each 55 gal barrel where the water will go rushing back in.

Your illustrations are very funny and awesome!
I like your creativity.
The only thing I would worry about is the roots not getting enough current flow and possibly rotting.
I am currently drawing up a setup that you might like. Let me know what you think.
But I really your method to go extremely big outdoor! 55 gallon drums can grow 10 foot tall monsters! !!
Thanks for making my brain go wild.

Update.
I forgot the waterfalls for the fish and the fish!!
So here is it with 2 waterfalls for the big fish pool that the barrels sit in.
Each 55 gallon barrel has a water fall coming in about a foot above its water level.

so the whole system has 9 waterfalls and just one hy-drive 1200 gph or next gph step up. Shouldn't need much more.

AND ZERO AIR PUMPS.

I like the tree in the center, good use of space.
haha, I'm waiting for someone to get on here and say. You could do a lot better if you just filled that pool with coco.
If a hydro setup using a pool would actually work, then someone doing that should be able to get monster trees over 10 foot.
My trees were 10 foot and they were in 15 gal smart pots. My trees were top heavy and fell over once I cut the strings tied to the cola's.
I'm thinking go with a land race sativa and really see how tall and monstrous they can get. These were the better part of 10 foot but that's from the ground up including the height of the 15 gal smart pots, the two on the left were 25 gal.

Cover your tub lids with something reflective and keeps the tub beneath in the dark. Roots prefer darkness, and the covers will help keep your RDWC water temps down.

Hey DubC awesome setup! I was here for some ideas for a diy UCDWC and then i saw fish! Now im pulling up a chair :)
I dont get what you are doing tho? Are you trying to get autos back to veg for clones to the system or did i miss something along the way?
Ill have alot more questions when im not so high :)
Best of luck and great ganja!
