Ultra Stealth DIY Basement Room

Nothing is being attached to the stairs. My little rooms will be framed right underneath the stairs.

I've already caulked and sprayed foamed all around and under the stairs. Ill stuff insulation under them before I build my little box. Then that little box will be dry walled, vapor barriered, insulated, foam boarded itself. I can't imagine what else more I can do. Lol

Seems like you're all set

Unless someone has a better idea for insulation. The roxul stuff is kind of pricey. But it's the best I can source locally afaik for acoustics.
enjoying your thread ,,,
cobs verse HPS,, after reading your thread and your investment amount, cobs will have to wait, I know plenty of people who grow with both, and HPS has a much lower set up cost, and will serve you well, there are plenty of ways to vent heat from cob led's, but then again, its more fabrication and investment of time and money,, where as a vented bulb is quick and parts fit out of the box,
both work and its not really a discussion you want to have on your thread, ( trust me on that one LOL) no really
full speed ahead with the big bulbs, plus they grow big buds!!
I would go with cheap insulation and cheap dry wall, there are paints out there that seal and repel water,, some good ones too,
Also sound is easiest of all for you to control, IMO you can hang fans on cords,, cuts tons of noise out, you can rubber mount fans, stops transition of sound thru walls and frames,
there are wonderful speed controllers for the big inline fans,, I use this one https://www.amazon.com/PHC-Enterprise-Variac-Variable-Transformer/dp/B006NGI8VS/ref=sr_1_1/158-5956764-5721336?ie=UTF8&qid=1474643632&sr=8-1&keywords=variac+speed+controller
and you can dail in your fan speed and sound level to a stealth level for sure
you have so many options for venting and air movement,, run tests, set up thermometers, and try things after you get walls built,, testing is your friend,
buy parts from places with good return policies,, i returned som much crap when i was building my grow area, that way you can try things, if it doesnt work sent it back or take it back,, like home depot for instance sales lots of growing stuff,, espeicailly on thiere web site,, and they have a great return policy,, same thing for amazon. try things like fans,, test it, if it doesnt work for noise or size,, or speed ,, ,return it,, get a differant one
hope these ideas help some
hey are going soil or hydro?,,, I grow in Sips now

Hey thanks for the post. I planned on buying almost everything via Amazon. My cart is currently $2400 lol. Lots of the same products doubled up so I can look at options tho. I imagine it will be about $1600 when it's time to buy lights/fans/nutes/etc.

And I think I'm going to use ProMix HP. Dixie cups to one gallons to either 3 or 5 gallons. And I plan on using either the full organic or the full elite line from Blue Planet. Silica, cal mag, maybe throw an overdrive in at the end.

And yep everything that moves or makes noise will be hung/roped/bungie mounted. I don't plan to hard mount anything other than my room fans.

Ya man, your on a roll for sure

No insulation soundproofs. Don't rely on it

The best insultion for sound isolation is the cheapest fiberglass you can get. Lab data says so. Marketing info and intuition doesn't count.

Foam is the worst insulation for sound - it is rigid and conducts. Don't let the foam bridge the stairs to the room

I'm not using the tuff boards for sound. I'm using them because 1) they can come down easily so if I need to work on the AC ducts or water lines above these new walls I can 2) it's r value 3) easy to cut 4) good with moisture 5) is reflective on one side already.

As for insulation... I don't know.... the rockwool stuff looks superior to fiberglass in almost every way I need it to here. Moisture control, acoustics and for fire reasons. Since I won't need much of it anyway I don't mind paying a premium for it.

future thinking , very nice,

Yea the washer/dryer is right above this area. And an outdoor spigot is as well. So I thought using these foam boards for the ceiling would be nice because they can be taken taken down and put back up easily in case there is maintenance required.

definately bro, plus if your in the middle of a grow, being able to service your house is prime important, and being able to do so without having to kill your grow would be paramount!,, great thinking

Thats a great point! having to shut down a grow at any point sucks ass!

The rockwool looks superior... but isn't for sound. In case others read this thread in the future, if you wanted the best insulation for soundproofing...it's the cheapest fiberglass. Lab tested.

I'm not doubting you but show me. Lol

Because that's the opposite of what I find.

At any rate...it's all getting sealed, insulated, sealed, and insulated again. I should be good no matter what product I use.

Double layers of 3/4" sheetrock with an air gap between them kills a lot of sound. But it might be overkill for the db's you're talking about.

I hadn't been over to AVS in a while (one of the forums I've been a member at for a decade that I mentioned in the OP) but I just took a gander. I think you're right to a point. There is little gained but much more expense with the Roxul product..at low frequencies. Which is what all the home theatre guys are looking for.

So you've swayed me...a little. I'm going to use Roxul in the ceilings but will stick with the pink stuff in all the vertical walls. It should save me a bit of cash.

Thanks!

Mathematically, for low frequency isolation, nothing beats cheap ass fiberglass. Nothing.

Compressed insulation will conduct a vibration.Never compress the stuff.

Vibration from motors is a bitch. Use bungies as others have mentioned.
