Trichome Troubles

Hello All!

First Post here, I've recently (that being relative) started growing marijuana. The relativity is that I've been able to harvest a few plants now and I've been very happy with how my buds are coming out. I've heard that depending on the colors of the trichomes and what sort of high you are trying to achieve the plant will let you know when it ready to harvest. That's how I've been judging my harvests, so far so good. About 75% milky and 25% amber trichomes seem to be my magic numbers. Now I've read up that the color of the pistols also may have something to do with determining thc readiness. I'm wondering if anyone has personally known any truth to this. Also, I now have a plant I assume to be sativa dominant, its trichomes are aging in an odd fashion. I should have roughly 2-3 weeks left to go and the trichomes are about 50% milky, 25% amber and 25% clear. What would be my best bet in this case for a more stoney sort of high?

I've been growing a few years, but I am no expert. All of my harvests have been after the pistols have turned quite red or brown. Yours are very white. The trichomes on many of my sativa dominants, do not turn amber. I have flowered over sixteen weeks and still not much amber, some clear, and most cloudy. They are probably the phenotype types that don't amber very much. I've grown them outside 400w induction light and under 600w hps. The outside ones that I grew into late October got some rot, but didn't get much amber. What kind of strains are you growing? From whom, did you get your seeds or clones? Are they bag seeds, mail order, local bred, autos, feminized? What generation, F1,2,..The reason I ask is to see if you are running a strain w/ pistols that white when you say you have 25% amber and you have only 2-3 weeks left and they are sativa. I'm interested in seeking that cultivar. What kind of high are you shooting for? Have you tried edibles? Do you dab? Are you in coco, hydro, soil, aero, or dirt in the field by the side of the road? What nutes are you running? Are you supplementing UV light?

Been running sativa / sativa dominants fer awhile. Hardly ever see amber no matter how far I let them go. Hairs don't change uniformly in any way.
For me.. I've come to like 50% clear / 50% cloudy. Makes for a trippy sort of high. Not like LSD,, more like vivid colors, higher contrast viewing,, sometimes a tunnel type hearing. Mostly energetic like wanting to do something and having the body ready to follow through. Nothing in the "couch lock" style.
I do get a lot of amber in the indie doms and such. I'll call "harvest" with 50-70% amber making all but maybe 5% clear. This is for "evening smoke" where I go to bed a hour or so after and sleep like a babe all night long. (That;s good for my age)
