Topping Twice

Hey everyone. I topped my plant at the 4th node and she grew 2 new main colas in that place.

Then after another 1-2 weeks of growing I decided to top her again but this time I only topped 1 of those 2 new colas. I guess I did this an en experiment.

My question is: Will I have extremely uneven growth? Can I just move my bucket over a bit in the opposite direction to make up for having more colas on that side?

I will be growing her in Scrog. Here is a pic of my setup:

I would think it would shoot one side up vs. not so much the other side. You can either top the side that you haven't yet, or pinch a few times. If you are gonna scrog, maybe more tops is better anyways.

I've done what your saying before and in my experience the side you topped twice will just have more top colas than the the other top you didn't ......but they usually stay pretty even in my experience doing that ....just more bud on one side than the other if done rite .....GL
Thanks guys. It will be interesting to see what happens. I posted a pic of my plan in my full journal. Check it out for weekly updates and to see what happens

So if anyone was curious to know how this is shaping up...

The right cola just took off while the left one spent time recovering from the topping.

You can clearly see the 2 colas on the left struggling to grow above the net while the right, top, and bottom have all grown symmetrically.

Hopefully those 2 left colas catch up soon and I can fill this screen.

As my plant progresses I have realized that the right side cola is growing much faster and as I tuck it under the scrog screen it's secondary colas are growing very fast.

The left 2 colas that were topped have been foreign much slower and the secondaries are not really coming to the canopy. (See pics below)

image.jpeg

As you can see above, there is little secondary growth in the left 2.

This is how she is looking now. The top colas are shown in red. They are more heavily concentrated on the right side. (See below)

Maybe this means LST/ Scrog is a better method to create tops than topping?

Anyone have an opinion?

Topping is great to get extra grow tips for ScroG or just to keep plants shorter and get more colas. For a young plant I intend to ScroG I try for a FIM to get four grow tips from each snip. Can get that almost every time. Strains known for good side branching are best for ScroG or leggy plants like sativas. You can also just bend the main growth stem over and tie it to the screen with twist ties. As it grows along horizontally it's side branches will begin to stretch out and they can be tied down as well until the screen is about 75% full then flip the plant and keep tying down tips as they grow out.

Love ScroG!
