timer says 10 more days

Don't go off days and time, but if the plant is ready or not, there are a couple threads around explaining this. The times can be confusing..some breeders list flowering times from the 12/12 flip, some list it after a week of 12/12 flip..the first week of flower really isn't considered flower..so now is your 8 week strain a 9 week strain? Other factors are phenotype, same strain but different phenos could lengthen , or shorten, flowering times.

What I'm getting at is those times are just rough guidelines, you need to actually watch the plants.

And yeah, don't chop it, let it go full term, some plants can really bulk up the last week or so.

don't go by the hairs. go by the trichomes. clear=not done
Look at all the signs. Hairs starting to brown and recede, calyxes swelling, trichs starting to cloud. a "done" bud should almost have a golden brown look to it, compared to an unripe one which will still have a bright greenness to it.

when the OP said hairs, I assumed he wasn't looking at the trichs under a scope. maybe he was?

No, i think you are right and he was looking at the hairs( what's the correct term for them?) not the trichs.

I never even looked at the OP's pics until just now, just giving out basic info..but now that i have, those are not done..

I tried finding the thread i referenced about bud doneness..couldn't find it..do a search it's around.

since when?
Since I'm here.. always. It's not that it isn't an indicator, it's just not completely accurate. It applies to most of what we grow because the majority of cultivated cannabis is indica dominant, but sativa heavy or dominant strains may never cloud out. There was a thread a few years ago where someone grew a land race sativa.. I think they were at week 14 of flower( yup..some sativas can go 16+ wks in flower) and the trichs were still clear as day.

Since always? Wait for your calyxes to swell and your pistils to recede. Put the scope down.

If the OP went by cloudy trichomes, he'd be harvesting now and that's way too early.

People harvesting based on trichome color is why we constantly have threads of people asking if they should chop down their premature bud, like this thread.

where do you see a pic of the OP's trichs? he said the hairs are long and milky i.e pistils.
just one of many sources re: this topic

So, you’ve managed to grow your own weed, congratulations! You’ve been growing your plant for several weeks now, and you’re anxious to clip what look like decent buds, but how do you really know your plant is ready for harvest? Well, no worries. All it requires is careful observation. Here are two basic ways of determining the optimum time to harvest marijuana.

1. The Easy Way

The easiest way to determine whether your plant is ready to harvest is to simply look at the plant. In particular, you want to look at the white hairs, or pistils, that cover the plants buds. As the plant matures and the flowering period comes to an end, the white hairs which initially stick out straight begin to darken and curl. You don’t want to start harvesting until more than half the hairs have darkened from white to amber in color. Buds will have their highest level of THC when between 50% -70% of the pistils have darkened. Harvest at this time for more of a psychedelic head high.

You can still harvest your plant when 70%-90% of the pistils have darkened. As your plant matures further, THC breaks down and oxidizes from exposure to air. As this happens the plants chemistry changes, making for a more calming, sleepy, body high.

2. The Precise Way

For a more accurate method of determining the ideal time to harvest, you will need to look at trichomes. In particular, you’ll be looking at the color and clarity of those trichomes. Trichomes are tiny, glandular, outgrowth on the leaves and buds of your plant. They often have stalks and a bulbous head, looking similar to a mushroom. The sticky resinous coating you’ll see on the trichomes is where the THC and other psychoactive components are stored. To get a good look at them you will need to invest in a Jeweler’s loupe/magnifying glass of 30x-60x.

Take a close look at the trichomes with your magnifying glass. Clear colorless trichomes are an indication that your bud is not quite ready yet. When your trichomes are more opaque or milky in appearance then you should start to get excited. But don’t harvest until most of the trichomes are milky. This is when THC is at its peak. For the most potent buds, with the most psychoactive effects, harvest when most of the trichomes are cloudy. Eventually the trichomes will turn amber or gold in color. Some strains will even turn purple or red. If you Harvest when most trichomes have changed from milky white, to one of the colors I have just mentioned, you will get more of narcotic, stoney, body high. However, your plant has past its ideal harvesting period when more than 75% of your trichomes have darkened.

click on his bud shot, once it opens, right click, then view image. Then you can zoom in ..he used a decent camera..or he's got a goo phone..good detail.

Where is this from? It's not wrong, but it' not totally right either. Read what i said about ind. vs sat. differences, some plants may never cloud out, or only a small percentage may cloud. Which is why most Sats are known for a racy high, more THC that didn't convert to other compounds as it matured. The clouding is THC converting to cbn's, cbd's, other compounds.

from all that I have read, when trich goes from cloudy to amber is when the THC degrades to different compounds. the optimal time to harvest is when most are cloudy and very little amber IMO.

I had a sativa grow a few years ago and harvested 3 of the 4 when they were still clear after 10 weeks. i left the other one alone for shits and giggles and harvested at 14 weeks after they finally clouded up and it was way more of the "up" high than the earlier harvested ones. just my own experience. i do almost all indicas or mostly indicas nowadays.

and it was from here. just the first one i googled.

shit you're right.. got my head in the clouds this morning..it's the amber when the THC is convert to cbn's etc. Now, were also dealing with thcA and thcV which convert to THC. I'm going to go refresh myself on the processes and timelines..lol.
