Three a Light???

Hey RM3,

I like your side by sides and it proves that defoliating will slow a plant down.

That being said, the demonstration in this video is a high yield technique and has been used for years by advanced growers. It is not new but there is an important note to consider...

You are doing a side by side where both plants have enough "space" to get adequate light. These high yield techniques in cages put a lot of tops into a very small area. The only way to make this work is to pull a lot of the fan leaves and allow the light to penetrate into this dense canopy of tops. Will the tops be smaller? Yes. If you took that same plant and gave it "more" space with less defoliating, would it be bigger? Yes. The reality is in a setup like this, that space doesn't exist.

I hope that makes sense. The idea is really to stack a ton of tops in a small area and thin the area around it. The colas will be a little smaller but you'll have a lot of them to make up for it.

I've seen setups that have even more tops that what this video shows. If it's done right, the yields are very nice :)
Would it be because all the tops are equidistant from the light?

Here's a pre harvest video of the gg4 and cookies kush scrog. .. after I harvested one. Lol (forgot to take the video!)
Didn't yield 3# per light but I did have a few environment issues in wks 4-6(I'll document it all in later post, with final weights) which, im SURE effected yield.
The bud is VERY dense(far more than gg4 normally is/was last run) so I'm not going to venture to guess weights.

Okay, so finally finished trimming and curing!! I did NOT get 3lbs per light. I did get 33+oz per light.
That being said, I'm not ripping josh's method . There were several issues during the grow that substantially decreased yields.
Co2 regulator went out for 5-6days before I found the problem. (happened right end wk4, into week 5). I started seeing some hairs turning orange , thought I had a hermie somewhere, after 4-5 days of searching I found the bottle had not lost any co2, checked solenoid, bad!! This caused EVERYTHING to finish a full week early, as well as losing prime swell time.
I had some issues with too low humidity, and I burnt the fan leaves off two plants, misting in front of fans to increase humidity (kindergartener mistake!!). Lack of co2 caused significant light burn across top of canopy.
Luckily I had planned for 17-21 day flush, so they still got 10-14 days on 8-9 wk plants and 21 and 24 day flush on 9-10wk plants .
The bud came out exceptional. I do believe I had a stronger terpenes profile last grow (close, but seems little less than last time) I'm sure the light burn and co2 had an effect, but i also believe i ended up having slight sulfur deficiency last few weeks (I switched from molasses to bud candy, didn't add additional sulfur to nutes... hard to tell with the extensive light burn though)
I will post some bud videos soon. Here's couple pics

Nothing to input on the book but my general take on de-leafing comes down to necessity.
If your growing a single stem bean stalk like rm3 - no removing leaves is not going to be beneficial.
But if your growing bushes that are easily 10 of his plants coming off of a single root system things get too crowded and a leaf strip can be beneficial for many reasons.

Also to the one home boy saying "buds need no light"?? Say what? You telling me direct light exposure has no effect on nug density?

Strip leaves three times in flower. Day 's 1, 6, and 21.

So about 3 weeks regrowing leaves insstead of flower

Then you dont feed the last 3 weeks to flush
Do you have to jack up the nitrogen the first month or so to regrow the foliage?
I do my strip at day 14 of flower, after that only a random leaf here or there if needed at the end towards ripening.
I think stripping too late in flower is asking for problems

Pruning the leaves in early flower if kept healthy will regrow leaves don’t have to pump with N. I think the pruning in this book is a lil extreme but the right pruning at right time will help yield some nice nugs. I do lollipopping and pruning leaves day 1 and day 21 that’s it and just like someone else stated a leaf here and there but main thing is to open the plant up as much as possible
