"thermal runaway"

Is thermal runaway really a concern?

  • Yes, I've seen it happen.

  • I've heard of it happening

  • It's theoretically possible, but I've never seen it

I'm going to start by saying, I'm not an electrical engineer, not even an expert.... I'm an enthusiast, with a generational background in hobby electronics ect.
I've built, and rebuilt, a LOT of lights since I got sucked into this a few years ago.
I'm forever indebted to those among us who actually ARE experts, engineers, professional manufacturers and even distributors...this question is for everyone,

Every now and then, we hear a whisper of "thermal runaway"....

Among the countless builds, of all circuitry types and components, that have been documented in these very forum threads, has it ever actually happened????
