if you are talking out of your ass and dont know shit, dont say anything.... your input isn't needed.
You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.
But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain......and an athlete... ...and a basket case......a princess......and a criminal...

I thought this was an open forum, where all walks of people could come and debate.
That is the point of growing and becoming better.
From looking to where we came from, and how far we have come.
Also how far we will grow in the future and become that much better because of it.
We quintessentially need nerds, athletes, basket cases, princesses and criminals.
Everyone's idea has validity even if it's just to them.

Even though I don't know shit, I'm still going to speak!

Here's a starting point for some nerds, What's your thoughts on a mini-split compressor.... looking for 3 ton units, I'm probably going w/ a Mitsubishi compressor, but are the Toshiba just as good for less $$????

ok, that question should weed out a few more.

Here's a pointer, if you are talking out of your ass and dont know shit, dont say anything.... your input isn't needed. If you have an intelligent question that google cant answer then by all means ask.

Geekmike are you looking to replace the compressor or are you looking for a whole outside unit called the condenser? I have 5 years in the HVAC trade and i have to say that between the Mitsubishi and the Toshiba is like picking between Toyota and Honda. I have more experience with the Mitsus because that is just what we offer the customers. Some things to watch out for with the minis if your blower wheel on the inside unit is dirty it will cause the unit to run like it is low on freon and ice up, also compression fittings are a common spot for leaks. the reason i say is just incase you are looking to replace the compressor those could be causes for failure. I guess what im trying to say is there really isnt a big difference they both have TXV's they both run the same size copper and they both will cool like a son of a bitch lol. Personally i like the mitsu cause they are easy to work on.

There is a difference between speaking your mind, exchanging idea and knowledge. It is another ball game, as you say in English, when somebody is showing off and coming like the New Messiah with some really sad looking girls.
I am far from being a grower but when I see pics from GeekMike, TC, ReefBong, Budologist, Kevdog and the list is real long and I see the Flobud that are supposed to revolutionized the way we grow. As a joke great, if it's not a joke....well I simply don't get it.......

Mitsubishi is the king of the mini-splits Mike. Although Toshiba makes some quality products.

How's that - nerdy enough?

I just got a cheap portable Sears unit for now. It is all the wife would allow. Glad I got it though. The room has been an oven in this heat. When I move the clones back in at night I just kick the room down to 72 and they get a nice cool sleep.

As for fluoros - they are great for vegging cheaply. However, nothing beats the sun for growing.

New stuff all around.

I know the mitsus are the shiz but they are also 10% more then a Toshiba, but if the maintenance cost is less on the Mitsu then I am all good.... decisions decisions.

It all has to do with the spectral differences, both of which(hps and floro) are from from ideal. The sun does it all bigger and better than any indoor source and in every spectrum at the highest intensities. And doesn't lack in anything that indoor lighting does.

But for indoors, fact is that HID puts out more usable light despite it's far from ideal spectrum. It may not be efficient but they there is still more, and more photons(umols not lumens)=more yield. Hps out yields and covers floros all day by a large margin too. If you run your hps with out the glass you get the uv produced...otherwise the glass blocks it...even MH's uv. And that is mostly where you are seeing that resin/trichome/potency boost from the floro's. Plus a little more blue. Which lots of people use a hps/mh alternating, or double arc bulbs. OR look into CMH bulbs. CMH with OG hoods are really impressive, but coverage is lower. Just removing the glass on hps does a lot. Don't AC your lights...AC your room.

Look at what commercial greenhouses do...GAVITA! no glass, no AC hoods, no RF and still digital, Phillips double ended bulb. They are getting over 2000umols at 24" which is about 90% more light than an lumitek ballast with an eye hortilux super hps bulb in raptor hood or 33% more than an og hood...and gavita out covers them both too. Plus that double ended phillips bulb last for 3years as well as a hortilux for a year.
I believe dirt diggle said he was running gavita's.

I understand the need for smaller growers and tents to AC. But just know that it isn't the best and you will always be wanting to add something(like uvb tubes) or try something new.
True bigger scale growers can supply all the quality that any floro can and in 10X's the quantity plus nice big buds top to bottom that people like and want.

Sorry for the length I'm a light nerd in addition to my weed nerdism.

edit: 7 new post while I wrote that

Through-the-wall units are cheap at Sears and they cool very well. Had one at the other house and it made three rooms ice cold! Oh no - more decisions!

While HPS is obviously gonna be a better yielding setup, quality of smoke should be good with floros due to a much broader spectrum. There are many studies indicating that UV light ups THC production (amongst other things like terpenes and such). Floros have a much broader spectrum and can have much elevated UV light. I can't independently confirm or deny what Vincent is saying because I've never flowered anything under floros. Have you? And if you haven't, well, it's pretty clear Vincent isn't the guy talking out of his ass.

Real nerds have an open mind.

The best bud I ever smoked didn't look like much. You really can't tell much about the final quality of something by a picture unless the plant is obviously fucked. He's got his opinion, no need to shit on him. Feel free to disagree, but it's probably wise to not ignore and ridicule someone as a general rule. Especially when he has some studies backing up the broad spectrum theory.

Vincent VonBlown, William Wonder and Mr. Vega are all in the same bs boat for me.

You are all talk and think you grow the dank, but those 'Bammer buds aren't dank and you are an embarrassment to the real Nerds out there. Stop posting so some real talk can actually happen around here.

I know I have had sad looking girls, but I was proud of them. Pride gets in the way sometimes.
Boasters and braggarts, just want someone to validate them that they did a good job.
It takes someone saying, "hey those look like shit." to become introspective and wonder why.

Jesus H. Some of you need a reality check. All this "real weed nerd" talk is laughable.

Von Blown may be on to something, or maybe not, but is there any need to talk down to the guy? Some of the best weed I have ever smoked (and grown) has been some pathetic *looking* shit ..... but blew my pants off after I tried it.

I'm not surprised to hear this kind of talk coming from the subcool fans though. His strains all make for pretty pictures, but often leave you wanting more when it comes to the actual smoke.

I am pretty sure VVB and WW are the same guy and only ever seem to talk about themselves or how they have a better way of doing whatever is the topic of the moment. I am not sure what their point is but it feels disruptive. The worst part about this is that sometimes I want to like their/his posts because they are interesting. I just don't want to support the negative behavior.

As for you Mr. Vega - I am not sure why Mike included you with them. Fluoros have their place just like LED, Plasma, HID... I think Mike just got disrupted by VVB and WW and you were collateral damage.

It is interesting that every time there is a shit storm on this thread it is because of WW and VVB. Are you paying attention mods?

This is the best place to learn....we just need to weed out the bullshit..
The fluro bud is sooo much smoother. I would say it's in the category of being therapeutic. The correct strain flowered under fluroscent lighting. And you don't have to worry about your lungs. Other wise, you can be in for some rough sledding with things like emphysema and COPD. But I truly believe even someone with advanced lung problems like I just described. Can be cured, or at least definitely maintained at a current level... By simply following the methods of fluro cultivation that I have described... This information I feel is probably the most important thing you will learn in cannabis production.
This is one that definitely belongs in the "Bullshit Folder". This was and still can be a very good thread for people to come and learn. Unfortunately this type of "Bullshit" is common all over the board. We need to reserve a few places where people can read and share good information. We would like this thread to be one of those places.
For those who have a thing for posting utter "Bullshit", hook up with your buddies and open a thread entitled: "Bullshit For Dummies" !

Well If anyone can sway my opinion with visually aesthetic plants grown out by floros, I would switch, I am all about saving money on the electric bill... However, currently I have seen on spindly little tiny yields from folks who run them through an entire life cycle.... I would like some peer reviewed sources to read based on tolerance and smoothness of the flower, in regards to various lighting and spectrums? That would be nice :) also can we see some floro pics besides the one to judge?

Can I ask to see pics of the finished flower? Or later in bloom... Is this a haze variety? Calyx swelling?
