The myth of amber trics!!

would it be preposterous for me to suggest they're still ripening for a few days to a week after the chop during a normal dry (no quick dry methods)?..i swear i've seen double the ambers before vs. after.

patience is rewarded with growing.... take a plant to DEATH in the pot.. compare it to one chopped clear trichs.. and cloudy.. and amber.. then the dead int he pot let it go until it literally DIES in the pot.... and tell everyone the difference.. because until you have done this.. you cant say its a myth lol..

or chop at diff times and have them LAB TESTED.

Well my obtuse replier. My point is that "amber is not always real". Get it now? Some of the greatest strains never ever ever will amber up until they are done

Ok so let me clarify for you. One of the strains is AKxSkunk. Not a sativa fyi.. And a very strong kush.

also.. skunk .. and AK both have sativa in the genetics.. lol.. a very strong KUSH ak x skunk ? lol . and depending on what kush we are talking about .. those have sativa in it TOO.. lol .

u can say never.. but I ran a original haze x skunk 1 . until it was amber.. 19 weeks. was cloudy at 13.. so they all change.. just you might not be able to keep it healthy enough to make it there..

lol took 26 weeks for the other tester ohazexskunk1 to DIE in the pot...

also.. I have been doing this since 04 or 05.. an I still look at trichs.. why? because ive noticed.. that in the summer.. my plants amber up quicker. in the winter they take a lil longer.. and I don't look at trichs all the way threw.. just after the date I have selected to start looking.... if you pull a plant down at the exact same time every grow.. u wont get the same results.. sorry but environment plays a role.. every single run. especially if your environment changes when winter comes around...

Personally, I dread the day i have to decide whether or not to chop. Im afraid I'll screw it up but thats the best way to learn. Im the type of person that does TONS of homework before i try a new hobby. Now, Im a noob, but i can tell you this. Doing is a far better teacher than studying. Knowing this, I ran a handful of bag seed to learn on. Never got to flower but i learned many important lessons. I think perfect practice makes perfect. Screw it up and you'll learn. Ignore seed bank flowering times. There are way too many factors involved to give a time frame. Some are pretty bold giving a range of only 5 days. Thats ludacris. As someone said earlier, the time of year even makes a big difference, when growing indoors obviously. Many things. Lattitude. Elevation. Just pay attention to the plant and you will learn what its supposed to look like at any given phase in its life. Especially if you stick to one strain. That being said, starting a thread is a good way to find out if you don't know. Eventually you won't have to ask. Eventually you will learn. Eventually i will learn lol. I think my point is that you can throw out all the scientific words and research findings you want but its not gonna help anyone. For one thing, the people who don't know, are noobs. We already established that. The only way they are gonna learn is by doing it. They can't lab test and they probably don't know what a calyx is. Idk maybe I'm way off base here but I think the "is it ready yet" threads are the most beneficial thing for noobs. At least then they can say OHHHHH thats what it looks like. Then again, a picture is not the best way to tell. A lab test is but thats not realistic for the average grower. Once you get in the general harvest week. A partial harvest at different times would be a good way to find out the best time to harvest a particular strain. Then the next time you grow, you would remember to wait or not. Again trial and error.

so I am just curious why ppl say to "wait until you think its ready to harvest, then wait a week"...I have heard ppl standing on both sides of the fence on this, and I am unclear as to which to go for....I realize letting them go longer only makes a difference of a few measly grams, but I hear so many mixed outlooks on that topic, I don't know what to believe...what have you guys found to be rewarding?

There was a thread about determining if your plant was ripe, it had a bunch of comparison photos someone took of plants at different stages of flowering. Looking at something like that gave me a much greater idea of what ripe looks like, it's night and day when you see it side by side. I looked for the thread to link it but it was years ago i saw it.

GTM, I think this is one of those "rule-of-thumb" things. It's good advice for less experienced growers and I remember relying on it a lot, often more as a reminder just to be patient. I think most of us have experienced that itchy trigger-finger desire to chop at the first sign of a brown calyx, lol. And to this day I still find that waiting just a tad bit longer than I had "planned" brings better results. But then patience has never been my strong suit :bigjoint:

And I still check my trichs, and 20% amber is another good rule-of-thumb, usually requiring a lot more patience, but not an absolute. Like a everything else with cannabis cultivation, a lot of it is science and a lot of it is art, and the balance between those two is your personal style. ;?D

harvesting time is more preference depending on the high you want. I don't really go by amber trichs either. That's because light degrades trichs. Those amber trichs can disappear. I watch firnthe orange / brownish hairs to recede into calyx. Then over the next couple days the calyx swell quite a bit. Then its chop time. Now I'm not waiting for all hairs. There will be some white hairs of course from the sativa traits. This can be applied to most strains. But judging finishing time based on trich color can be misleading

I remember that one too, someone on it was getting pissed about all the uploaded pics asking if they are done. Lol good times!

I will say this one last time. The logic and the advice on every single post on here says that you should harvest when
trics are 50% or higher amber.
I was just pointing out that this is a myth and or not true for many many strains now being sold.
For those posting saying sativa's don't amber well wow I really thought cannabis didn't make you stupid but.
I have grown more than one sativa dom strain and they do but it is strain specific.
One finished in like 12 to 18 weeks and it did amber.
My strains don't amber and well they are done way before they would if I left them and they would be
trash if I left them.
People also say sativa's take longer to finish and I have grown those also but some don't that are sativa dom.
Both mine finish in 48 to 52 days and I mean they are ripe and done.
It is about strain as well. Not conditions because my conditions never change and I have done like 18 strains now.
For the haters out here go get yourselves a great thai strain. You will love them. LOLOLOL.. Hope your grand kids like weed too because it will take them longer than it takes to grow old to finish those bastards.. No really I am joking go get a great thai strain. you will love them. really. No REally...
