The Irish Growers Thread!

Serious question. Have any Irish growers had problems with excess electricity consumption being detected ? I am planning to build up slowly to prevent a sudden increase & I am on a payg meter.
Blame it on the immersion. I lived in Dublin for two years and everything was about the feckin' immersion. Don't forget to turn it off. You can't shower during the day because of the immersion. Jaysus

I actually have a question for the outdoor growers. I spent a little time in the west and the wind would howl. Are there any tips for windy conditions? Strains? (Obviously more indica for shorter plants)
Or strategies for dealing with wind? Wind breaks etc..

While it would be too late to start for outdoors now, outdoor strains are not wind resistant, they are more mold and disease resistant but not immune. Mold is a huge problem.
These plants do not like wind so the more protection you can give them the better.
Lots of topping will keep them stronger.

they should be alright with the wind, cage/stake them if its terrible. close but not too late + theyll be small and wont catch the wind as much depending where they are. Give it a go and grab a cheep pack of kc33 kc36, or some easy sativa, purple maroc.

i think 33/36, few year back, cant remember anything other than being late, end of October and mold free. Good rep and cheap.

Just wondering what everyone else is using for pest control? What are the most common bugs, etc found in our lovely green country? I've had no bug issues yet but my girls are getting smelly so it won't be long before they start attracting something. Would very much like to prevent that! Ta...

Same here.
Skittle bugs and small green fly's are a prop atm.
Someone told me to try water soaked in with nettles for 24hours then pray on the plant .
I tryed it on two plants and seemed to get rid of the skittle bugs bud not the green flyes.

Ok lets talk aphids then. They are not attracted by the lovely smell but by decaying leaves.
Pick up all debris and yellowing leaves.
First decide do you want to go organic or chemical.
I would suggest organic for your situation with a couple of plants.
Spay neem daily for prevention until flowering. You should not need anything as this is a first grow and should be a clean environment, all tools and pot sterilized and no house plants. Pyrethrum can be used to control and is organic but still dangerous, Perethtrum is not organic and is OK for emergencies and is in most pesticides.
Green fly can be wiped of by hand.. Aphids like dry and hot, keeping temps down in late flowering will slow em down.
Watch for yellow dots on your leaves,
soapy water for greenfly and wipe away.
Dont use anything in late flowering.......... Cleanliness.
My grow rooms can be used as an operating theater.

That's really helpful, thanks budsahoi! You're spot on with organic, I don't want any nasty chemicals on my girls. I did end up ordering the biobizz leaf coat, have you had any experience with that yourself? I know it's probably not as good as neem but it was much cheaper and right now every penny counts. Better than nothing really....

I use a preventative spray. Hottest chillies you can find, simmer gently and run through a coffee filter and into a water sprayer. I also add a VERY small amount of unscented soap. Little fuckers have a soft palette so can't feed.

What Is Pyrethrum?
One of the oldest pesticides known, pyrethrum is also the strongest insecticide allowed under National Organic Standards guidelines. Made from the dried flowers of a little white daisy now classified as Tanacetum cinerariifolium, pyrethrum insecticides are known for their fast knock-down of unwanted insects. Insects typically become paralyzed as soon as they come into contact with pyrethrum, so it’s often used in wasp sprays. Pyrethrum use in the garden should be undertaken with care and only after cultural methods that might manage a pest have been exhausted. Pyrethrum insecticides are highly toxic to bees, wasps and other beneficial insects, as well as to fish.

Never used it, sorry.
Always check the underside of leaves, use a magnifier app or even better get a jewelers loupe, you will need one anyway to check when your plants are ready. Can be got cheap on ebay etc.
