The closet zen garden of perpetual enlightenment

Hello all and welcome to my latest experiment! Over the past few weeks I've been addicted to a thread on here called "harvest a pound every 3 weeks" by stinkbud and I went through 250+ pages of the thread and it struck me with such inspiration I had to do all I could to replicate that set up.

But I needed a space, and finding space when you live in a tiny big city apartment can be hard to come by. In my previous grow I consolidated my closet to fit 3 DWC 5 gal coolers in a small 2'x2' space it worked but the results were a tad mediocre since DWC is a bit challenging to maintain, unless you have the devotion of a monk.

So after reading stinkbuds thread about his nft/areoponic system, I was amazed at how simple it was and how much plants love it! The only problem that ever came up in the thread by other members who used this system was they had TOO big or TOO many plants. That's a problem I would live to get.

Which brings me to the latest grow. I deided that any clothes I own that need to be hung up are now out of my life and after a quick drop off to good will I am free to use the entirety of my closet for growing! image.jpgShirts without wrinkles are over-rated

Using a space of 76"x28"x90" I segmented it with 3layers of Mylar so I would have a veg chamber roughly 23"x28" and a flower 43"x28"

image.jpg

Currently I've popped 5 strawberry haze seeds from greenhouse and I'm going to mature them in the dehumidify dome with heat pad until they mature enough to fit in my flower set up.

As the is the inception of my perpetual grow I plan to just use the 5 plant setup on the left for the entirety of these beans lives. And once they get at least 10 nodes on them I will have hopefully already built stinkbuds cloner and vegger set ups so I can truly start my perpetual.

To do the perpetual I plan on building a cloner out of a 5gal bucket(perhaps a Rubbermaid but shy on space so we'll see) with 13 sites, once clones are in there for roughly 3weeks I'll transfer them to the veg unit that will be made for 2 rubbermaids stacked atop one another with 10 plant sites on that. Then once those are in there for 3ish weeks and if I have nothing in my flowerer I will pick the best 5 and flower them for however long they need. I know I won't be harvesting a pound every 3 weeks but I should get a good harvest every month or 2 with lots of hemp juice in between. I know I'll be cloning/vegging alot of plants that will never see the flower room as these seeds take 10 weeks to complete their flower cycle but I am totally fine with that because i looooove juiced hemp, gives you a kick of energy kind of like Cuban coffee!

As far as lighting goes I know I'll need to beef it up a lil eventually but in my flower room I'll be running a 400w hips with a 500w(equivalent) cfl, I may add 2 of those cfls to the flower room but we'll see. My veg room also has 1 of those 500w(equivalent) CFLs and I may add 2 or just get a HO fluorescent down the line.

image.jpg

For nutrients I'm going to be using veg+bloom from hydroponic research it also came with a flowering free-bee called "size" that's 0-11-11 plus I still have a lot of fax farms chaching hanging around so when it comes time to flower ill use up "size" and if I run out perhaps switch to chaching. Any thoughts?

I'm uber-excited about this grow since I do declare I'll be on easy street for the entirety of the time. My method for changing the water in the Rez is soo simplified, I just attach a hose to the head with in my res and run it to a drain, then I run a second hose to my shower into the res, hit the 800gph pump for roughly 10-20 min continuously and once my ppms are reading 40 (standard tap water) I add nuits and etc!
image.jpg

So far I've put one seedling inside the system because it hap a taproot long enough to go through the foam plug and I want to test the speed difference between me vs the humidity tray
image.jpg

They only thing close to nuits they're currently getting is diluted clonex.

Looking towards the future I have a small list of thing I'm sure I'll have to address;
- light proof the in-between wall better
- build cloner and vegger
-there's a small leak on my flower machine, roughly 10 drops an hour, I've a bucket to catch it now but will have to seal that someway somehow
-build a scrog to go over the flowerer

Soo that EVERYTHING my RIU readers! For now at least please free to comment on anything in this thread! I look forward to showing yous guys oodles of photos!

Also just now, for the one lil guy in my stink-nft, I put nuits in the res to 250ppm and adjusted pH

And so the seedling sprout and the journey begins!

image.jpg

Well every taproot got to about an inch long and I must admit I was all to eager to transfer them, so now the SB system is in full effect!

image.jpg

And I'm already starting to see how my variation on his system are over complicating it but not too complicated. As stink says KISS keep it super simple. With my multi segmented system I have 2 small leaks coming from the 4' double tube at the coupling. The leak is only 1 drop every time the systems sprays. I know I should take it apart and glue the joints but now I've plants in there and I don't want the chemicals in the glue to kill anything, I'm sure the leak will disappear once the roots in these strawberry bitches get big, but I can live with the few drops a day until harvest.

Also I think my pump switcher is missing a few sprays, I was awake in bed for a while this morning and I didn't hear it click in for a while so I jiggled the pump and reset the system. It could've just been time moving slowly bit I think the 800gph pump may be too much for the switch... I sure hope that's not the case

But they're i. And I couldn't be happier with the results thus far! Soo thrilled to be a stinkbuddy

And they're off! My seedling are in their first few days in he areo and getting bigger by the minute.

Some notes:

-the 800gph pump is definitely heating up the cooler making me have to frozen water bottle it daily to stay below 80. Will be seeing if my 130gph motor can run the 10 sprayers. May set up to a more moderate pump.

- I think the cooler is also acting as a thermos with the pump radiating inside. If I didn't have such an awful experience the a RDWC set up I would just make the 800 pump external.

But all in all great set up that works incredibly before your eyes.

Chi-chi-chi-Chiba!

A 400 gph pump should be plenty for that system .. The water bottle thing will get old , I would try to concentrate on getting your room temp to a steady 76 or lower or think about gettin a bigger Rez scents it will stay cooler easier but good luck bro , much props, I'm also in the making of a fence post system , cuz I'm sick of taking care of dwc , good luck brotha

Okay so these plants are GROWING!! with beautiful roots happening beneath. Today I switched pumps, i went from an 800 to a 138GPH. I certainly don't get the same spay I used to, but i removed four sprayers from the line up and duct taped the holes. so I get some mist action but before it was ridiculous.

I changed out the reservoir and good news that this pump can still empty out the res, I was worried it would be too week to pump through 50 feet of hose.

Using hydroponic researches "veg+bloom" I upped the PPM to just under 500ppm. I wouldve added more but Veg+bloom seems to lower the pH in my water to orangish-on the brink of-red and I dont have any pH up.

I'll be going out of town for 10 days and I have all sorts of worries for this grow since a lot of it is untested. I'll have a friend watching them so hopefully it wont be anything too crazy that happens while I'm gone

I was just in the Bay Area and that area is where you can forget about your troubles. Good pot is all over and it's pretty cheap. Everything is thriving! The person who I have take care of my plants when I'm out of town, a fellow weed warrior, watched them and he and I don't believe the ease of this setup so far.

A frozen water bottle every 3-4 days and the rest practically takes care of itself. And I feel like a salesman talking about it but it's great!

image.jpg

So water has been added as it seems to go down a liter or so every few days and while I was away we bumped the ppm to 600. With pH yellowie-green so I think that's low 6 /high5. But roots are looking healthy and I'm not sure f some plants are just a heartier phenotype or if it's not getting enough spray.

I'll be changing out the water and boosting the ppm to 900. I guess this makes them in their second weekish, I've got to keep better track, but they look bigger than your average two weeker

There's still a persistently small leak on 1 joint but besides that it's showing a lot of promise.

I had the lights on. 24/0hr on set up but now am going go to 19/5 with just my cfls for the time being. I'm looking to prevent stretch as I think these girls might get tall, love to try and scrog em'.

The good thing is they look nice and healthy! Do you have any air stones in the PVC where the roots sit?

No airsttones I have ez-clone sprayers in PVC pipe hooked up to a 138gph pump in the Rez, they spray 1min on 5 off

Week 2 begins and with it comes new news! And good news everyone things are going spectacular since last update they've almost doubled in size but perhaps more. Since having switched from 24 hour lights on to 19/5 the plants have been doing some stretching in the dark, I think they like their beauty sleep.

So for this week I change out the water and only filled my res up just past the 5gal mark. I want to test how the temps do with less water. To keep a keen eye on it, I took the temp activated heat switch for my seedling tray (as I shant be needing it any longer) and put it in the reservoir so I can see what it is digitally. with 10 gal in the res the temp didn't seem to want to go above 77 degrees which inst bad but the water is about 68 degrees when fresh.

webfim.jpg

This week I'm expecting a lot of growth since I upped the PPM's to just shy of 800. To combat this I gave my hand to FIM-ing this time around as I plan on using almost every method to keep these girls in tow. FIM-ing for those not in the know, is cutting the top growth just right, similar to topping which'll give you two new tops, FIM-ing if done right will give you 4 tops but its cool if you fuck it up because your failed FIM will be a successful topping.

Also I've numbered each plant 1-5 and have been tracking them to monitor phenotype. Now these are FEMINIZED SEEDS so I'm not sure if what I'm doing even matters, but I am preparing to do a perpetual grow. So I want to experiment with finding a pheono I like and keeping it alive via constant clone cycling. So far it looks like I'm whitinessing some that look more sativa-y and some more indica-y

4web.jpg
(4)

I assume though to find the pheno I like properly I have to see all these plants through harvest and curing and see which smoke I like the most. So it looks like I'll just have to perpetually grow all of them for a while in the veg/clone until I see it through.

But what do you guys think? which plant is your favorite looking strawberry haze thus far?
