TGA The Flav Smoke Report

Strain: TGA Subcool The Flav

Growth: I topped twice to get a very large bush, then pruned the lower branches and growth to get 9 branches in all. No support was needed until the last two weeks of flowering, when the buds completely filled in and were heavy!! For being a 60Indica/40Sativa, this plant almost tripled in size after 12/12, so make sure you can either train the plant horizontally (like I did) or that you have a tall grow room if you don't want to train.

Nutrients: Subcool Super Soil at bottom half of 5 gallon grow bag + Advanced Nutrients: Big Bud, Bud Candy, Nirvana, and Sensizym at weeks 3 and 5

Yield: 136 grams -- hung to dry for 5 days and cured in jars for 15 days

Grow Time: Vegged for 29 days under 18/6 hours of 200watt T5. Flowered for 57 days under multiple 400watt lights (I have 3 x 400watt light in my 55" x 55" tent)

Bag Appeal: 8.5/10 The buds have a hairy outer appearance due to the long orange pistils, very noticeable resin content. The buds are very dense at the large tops and nice popcorn lower buds.

Smell: 9/10 -- Very appealing smell that is exotic and fruity

Taste: 9/10 -- A cool menthol fruity taste that turns musky dank on the exhale. In a Raw paper joint, you can taste a bit of cherry flavor. The menthol coolness is brought out more with a vaporizer, very soothing on the lungs although it does expand.

The High: 8.8/10 -- Onset is slow for the first bowl (bong), but if you wait 5 minutes you will notice that you are blankly staring off into space and smiling. If you do 2-3 bowls in a row, you will be blitzed instantly and your senses all seem higher than normal ;) This is a very good daytime smoke, as it doesn't make you tired if you don't just keep doing bowl after bowl or joint after joint. Make sure you have plenty munchies though, as this weed makes your stomach really start grumbling for food.

Comments: This plant proved to take up quite a bit more space in my 55" x 55" grow tent than all my other plants, but the very large yield of trichome covered tasty buds was worth it! Quite a large yield in such a short flowering time!!

nice use of adjectives describing the taste & buzz. cherry menthol sounds interesting. the flav was one of the early strains i was interested in but expected it was stonier than you describe. i still think 3D is what i want to try next though.

thanks for sharing the info

I would probably recommend The Flav over 3D as I've grown both and they were close to the same size plants at harvest...They both grew moderately in Vegg, but once you flip to 12/12 they stretched and stretched for about 25-28 days into flowering. Flav yielded 1.5-2 ounces more and only took about 5 days longer with the same lighting and if you have heat issues (like I do during summer) you will be happy that The Flav can still produce some fat, dense buds in the 90'sF temp range....crazy! 3D was more fluffy buds, but still had plenty of trichomes like all TGA strains do! Both were semi-creeper at first, then a mix of mental/physical bliss.

i like fluffy buds! i started out smoking "opposite of bag appeal" columbian gold, and it spoiled me forever. it sounds like 3D has more of a high and less stone than the flav, and i've been interested in A13 to see if it's any better than C99 and i'd have bought jack the ripper if only it had been named jack's cleaner 2 which i really do love. i avoid stoney like poison. i'm only growing for headstash, so i don't give an eff about yield, though i am breeding for it with C99 etc. my only interest is high, high and more high.

Yea Flav is a bit more stoney than 3D I must admit, but it's still a clear and insightful high unless you just smoke bowl after bowl after bowl hahaha. I'm gonna put me a nice TGA seed order in coming soon, as I am also interested in getting some more sativa leaning plants. I'm the kind of person that likes to have a mixture of highs in my growtent, so I'm going for a strong leaning Sativa and then a knockout Indica. Already got my knockout Indica's vegging....TGA Qrazy Train and I'm about to sprout me 2 Querkles as well.....just gotta get me those sativa's going. I have a Paradise Seed's Delahaze going right now that is due to be ready here in the next 2-3 weeks, but I'm partial to TGA to tell you the truth....I've just NEVER had anything bad from TGA, hahaha. And never any grow problems that I can't solve with their seeds.

I'll probably try to pick me up some Jacks Cleaner 2 (that's their most sativa leaning plant in the selection) since you and some other's have steered me towards that plant. But some other's I have in mind as well are Time Wreck, Space Jill, Kaboom, Apollo-13 BX, and JillyBean....There are just so many choices LOL.

i think actually jack the ripper is TGA's full on trippiest paranoid sativa. it's the most popular one. i just don't like the name. it goes against my summer of love feng shui.

some sativas i'd recommend from personal experience are the JC2 because it has a warm touchy feely euphoric buzz with imaginary color effects related to touch that's strange but fun. then i'd recommend high quality seeds' haze x skunk for a really potent motivational sativa that got me off both beer and food grazing so i quit drinking a pack of red dogs a night like that and lost about 10 pounds in a month just ignoring hunger pangs and the buzz never degraded to any stonier than the lead eye that's always there but motivated over. then i like DNA genetics' sweet haze because it does everything just a little better than a bunch of more similar average fruity hazes. i really need to compare the 3 strains side by side under the same conditions to see what each is capable of. after those, i really like mandala's back in 2013 but really nicely balanced 8 miles high as it's just a perfectly well rounded strain that isn't too much of anything but fun with a really cool neutral energy profile. satori is supposed to be better. oh yeah, john sinclair's sativa trans love might have a generic haze buzz like many strains, but that strain makes buds quick & thick! as soon as i flipped my 2x topped UFO, i got a near flat top with maybe an ounce of nice bud in just 30 or so days of flowering. there has to be some use for that strain with the fastest flowering high strains like cindy & apollo. it was just sick at how fast the tiny little gal was making SEEDED bud when it's rivals were just starting flowering. those are all worthy of testing in my opinion.

Don't you mean overly mature? Most of its trichomes have turned to amber
no not at all.....I don't see any color on the trichs in those pics, and trichs can turn due to stress and other issues. The hairs will recede into the bud when it nears maturity, and I see way too many hairs for that sample to be mature completely IMO.

lol whatever you say, it smokes fine just like every TGA product I've grown and I've made plenty money off of it, so believe me I'm happy. I purposely harvested when the trichomes were 80% cloudy 10% amber and 10% clear...there were hardly any clear trichomes, believe me I use a 100x magnifier and cut different samples of bud to check trichomes. I had Cataract Kush, a 99% Indica going at the same time as this plant, so it made sense to preserve more of the sativa buzz by harvesting right when TGA says instead of waiting an extra week to let the trichomes get more amber. My grow temperatures are 90F so that definitely has an effect on what the buds look like. I've had way better luck with getting dense buds in the winter

YEA OK that makes sense too that you had heat issues that made em' loose or whatever. Again, not bashing your grow man, just asking about what I'm seeing. I'm glad your happy with it, that's all that matters...peace.

Yea bro I REALLY need to invest in an A/C I already know that for sure...just had to make some bread first to get that part underway. 86F-93F is what I've been dealing with the past 4-5 weeks now, and it's probably gonna get a little worse than that before it starts cooling off at the end of September...And I'm talking about nighttime temperature when my lights are on...it really sucks. I miss the tightness of buds I was getting back when my grow temps were in the 70's, But still some damn good smoke, and it really surprised me that I got that good of a yield with that hellish of heat, hahaha. On to Walmart for a $100 air conditioner!!!

lol if i had a bigger house where i could put my grow tent inside, I would not be having this problem, but thats what I get for having to grow in the garage in a tent...
