Temperature

we've had to turn two of the lamps off as the temp' of the room rose to a fairly dramatic 96f. Most of the plants have two sets of serrated leaves, and all 80 are living off one 400w metal halide. I'm hoping that as the plants grow we'll need the extra light.

Also, winter is on the way, and we're thinking of using a fan heater to keep the room heated during the darkness period

If you are growing 80 plants under 1 - 400watt HPS..

you are in for some serious over crowding..

can you post a picture?

You need some ventilation going. You need a way to exhaust all that heat out. Maybe use a wall a/c or something.

this is our first time and we've managed to get room temp down to an even 90f. We do have a large fan blowing directly between lights and plants. Why is temp of room such a consideration? My meaning being that it would be far hotter directly under the lights where the plants are anyway. Surely the fan will provide adequate ventilation despite the temp of the room?

Anyway, thanks for all the info'. I've got hold of some cheese and I'll be damned, it's actually getting me stoned. Rarity these days, hence my personal venture into cultivation. I've learned loads and I'm already looking forward to starting my 2nd crop without all the mistakes of the 1st.
thanks again... :eyesmoke:

Hi SKUNK...

Ideal photosynthesis occurs at 76-78 degrees.
Meaning, at 72-82 degrees, your plants will produce the most BUD!!!

At 90 degrees, you are asking for a lot of potential problems..

Increased bugs, mold, fungus, transpiration, watering, stretching etc...

It can be done.. but for indoor growing it is not ideal..

If for some reason you get SPIDERMITES, (which I really hope you don't).. there will flourish in 90 degree temeratures.. wreaking havoc on your entire garden

It's big over here in U.K. Very similar to AK47. I remember talking to an American on fics about it and he hadn't heard of it either. If you can get some I'd rec' it. Expect to pay more than usual. I've heard it going for as much as a tenner a gramme. That's Sterling.

Gotta find a way to lower temp' of room. What about a couple more fans?
An exhaust system sounds expensive? Could I build my own? Well, obviously I could, what I mean is, could I do it easily?

To lower the temp you need to take all the air that is at the top of the room, squirrel fans are fairly cheap they are quiet and well worth the money. However if you are gong for cheap go to home depot and grab a washroom ceiling fan then grab some flexible hose and you are set.

Now the only thing is you have to figure where you are going to vent it. If it smells a lot you can try a carbon scrubber. I used to have some nice pics on building one but that computer got toasted anyone else have any ?

We seem to have managed to control the temp'. Simply by leaving the bedroom door open, the temp has now plummeted to 84f. We're also going to start giving them 6 hours darkness as up till now we've left the lights on all the time. In darkness the temp is a steady 78f. Hopefully now, finally we can relax a bit and watch the babies grow.

HEY SKUNK..

i agree will mr. rollitup...

heat rises.. so suck the air from the top of your room and blow it outside or into your attic.. and if possible, have cool air be DRAWN from your basement or crawl space...

and of course, oder will be an issue..

WEED = $60 a sack..

with that in mind, an exhaust fan is cheap.....

Sorry mate but $60 a sack means nothing when you are from england. What weight is in a sack? Over here $60 would probably get you a quarter ounce with some change left over for cigarettes and a pack of king size silver rizla. Maybe some chocolate bars too if you're the type who suffers with the munchies.
