Currently deciding to grow in either a PC case or a small cabinet (W x D x H = 1200mm x 500mm x 900mm) and need to know how much the temperature will rise with CFL lighting?

It's coming into winter here now and the grow room got down to 42f last night, I think I could get the temps up enough in a PC case but what about a cabinet? I'd prefer a cabinet so I dont have to worry about the space so much...

Planning on using decent CFL's, 85-125 watts x 4 per plant.

No magic answer here.... Try the cab first if that is where you want to try. Install your cfl's check the temps...might want some reflective material and install and adjust an exhaust fan, because it will need some fresh air exchange no matter where you grow....Cfls do generate heat, some quite a bit....Experiment with it have some fun with it....Happy gardening.....:-)

The most important thing would be where you are gonna suck your air from, in the winter out here i stick a tube outside and i can keep my 400 watt lamp as close as 30Centimeters without temperature rising more then 24c-28c degrees celsius, but in the summer i stick the tube in our hallway which is really cool so even in scorching temperatures like 30 degrees (which is rare out here) my box stays around 28 degrees celsius.

Best thing like mentioned before is to just try without having your plants in there.
Peace!

Haha yeah I won't be using 4 x 125 watts in a PC case, More like 2 x 45 watts

The ambeiant temp of the room it sits in makes a differance as well, My cab is in a closet with no real air flow coming so it gets hot fast. When I open the closet door it cools down quickly.

Yea there will be plenty of cool air in the attic where I plan on growing. In the summer though it's like a sauna up there and would be out of the question.

Good question, something I had not asked myself. Not planning on heating it so will see how much heat I can retain for 12 hours of darkness. I could switch the fans off and let it heat up a bit before switching off for darkness. If I make the 12 hours darkness during the day it shouldn't get colder than 50f in the attic...
