Its not the scar on the trunk its under that, almost like you could pick away at it. Outside texture is like spongy with cracks and crevices... I would compare it to a person having 11 layers of skin and like 2 layers scratched up... Is this a problem??? Anything I can spray on it like a foliar feed to protect it ??? HELP please.

Sounds like you may need a tree sealant, ive seen this problem on some MASSIVE outdoor plants that have their stems break cause of the size/weight on them.

Aren't you supposed to put the clay balls in the netcups, not the outside?
Um not sure exactly what ur talking about, but It has worked fine before... What I do is start them in a 2 inch net cup then when the plant gets bigger I just keep it in the 2" net cup and put that into the bigger (too big) probally 4" netcup.

I suspect a fungal infection, although the opposite is true with bulk fed external plants, here the situation is very different,
almost like a athletes foot fungal disease, post more pixs, of the canopy ...look to your garden store for some tree repair wax

You have done well to keep her in great shape, see inside that trunk is mostly hollow and all the action is done in the cambium, or just under the bark, with fluids moving up and down as the plant sees fit, I'd still apply some tree wax to that lower stem, and as far down as you can get... avoiding the rootzone ..
good luck
