Talking with MARC EMERY about the BC dispensary raids

I agree with Emery's take on things. It's the same all over the Western world. The police like making the easy busts because the criminals involved are non-violent, and canna grows are fairly easy to detect with rudimentary equipment. That makes it good for their crime stats. The cops also get good funding for this kinda stuff. So legalized cannabis actually makes cops' jobs a lot tougher.

Another thing to consider is that cops are kind of brainwashed into believing that cannabis is bad. They have to be educated into believing this otherwise they would get guilty consciences every time they make a bust. So seeing cannabis being legalized is anathema to them, and now they're acting out.

The police are losing power and autonomy all over the Western world due to austerity programs, government spending cuts and a general move away from socialist forms of government to capitalist ones. On the one hand it's good because you get legalized weed. On the other hand, the streets are going to get more dangerous now that the cops are less numerous and less visible.
