Switch from DWC to Aeroponics - Air stone?

need to run bennies always as prevention... those roots look fucked to me, and they typically dont like to veg new roots in the middle of flower. from what I have seen, h2o2 is trash for treating root rot.

I would also definitly keep the air stone on for the rest of this grow at least. Lack of dissolved oxygen is perfect for anaerobic bacteria. kinda curious to know if the ph is stable.

Stupid question but are bennies just Hygrozyme? I've had a good look at that sticky recipe for breeding bennies, but don't have access to the ingredients in Aus:/

Yep, I've got an air stone in the res. I understand that aeroponics gets the oxygen from the air surrounding the roots, but what I don't get is that this air wouldn't be refreshed without an air stone, so it seems one is required...

Yep, ph has been stable. The water I use usually comes out at about 7 and I adjust down to ~5.8. It seems to rise to about 6 and stay there until I do a res change...

Just chatting to myself here but new development... My Ph/EC/Temp meter shit itself so I lashed out and grabbed a Bluelab Guardian. For the amount it cost I really hope it gives accurate readings.... If it does my EC has been almost double what I thought it was and my ph has been far closer to 4 than 5.8. No more questions about what to do to help my plants but more questions about why are they still alive haha

Hydrozyme is pretty expensive, and you most certainly can run without bennies, as I have never used them. 6 drops of bleach per gallon is all I've ever needed (thanks atomizer). Never had root slime, and I've had res temps to well into the 80's, though not ideal! An airstone is never a bad idea. I'm no expert on what to do when you've already got the slime. Being that you've been over-feeding, I'd say flush the shit out of em, clean as much as you can & get some bleach in there. You very likely consume far more toxic shit on a day to day basis, than 6 drops per gallon...

I am looking at switching from DWC to aeroponics (yep just the low pressure variety) due to the noise that the that the air pump in my DWC creates. I've had some great results with DWC (well not really as the plants turned out to be male) but the high volume air pump that I was using creates too much noise.

I figured that switching to an aero setup may be quieter but I can't figure out if an air pump will still be required? I understand that the water and roots will be aerated by the air in the root chamber but wouldn't this area need to be ventilated to refresh it? Or would the nutrient the res require an air pump anyway? I've been looking around a lot and the figures I've found don't seem to show any aeration other than the sprinkler heads?

Cheers
No need for an air pump for sprayers, the roots hang in air. Glad to hear you figured out some of the issues. Also pondzyme seems to work well for me but I just switched to it after using H2O2 for the first two years. Just make sure you have no light leaks, keep the water oxygenated (DWC) and cool. Also if your still thinking of doing LPA read stinkbud's and Superstoner's threads, very informative.

Thanks bud. I've been meaning to look around for Pondzyme as I haven't stumbled onto it here is Aus yet. I'll def have a good look at Stinkbuds and Superstoner's thread as I'm just about to harvest the plants I had issues with and have some plants in veg (Amnesia Haze, Cheese Candy, WWx BB and Psycodelicia) in veg and ready to be switched to LPA, once the space is available. Thanks for the heads up as I really want to get it right this time!

I run synthetic nutes as well, looking to have some slime a way on y shelf for if and when it hits. I want to try a grow with none of that shit. My water is pretty well chlorinated. And choc full-o- chloramine!!

Is chloramine not bad for the plants? I'm on a well so never paid much attention. From what I've read chlorine is ok but chloramine not so good. Again never paid much attention so could be way wrong.

Hey man not sure if u figured it out or if anyone else suggested this but if its just the humming from the pump that drives u nuts.
The best way to remedy that is to just screw a plant hanger hook in and hang the air pump.
You cant hear it vibrating and i find it makes way more air bubbles being hanging in the open.

Just my two cents
Good luck man

I had tried hanging the pump from an Ocky strap but the industrial pump I was using was just crazy loud. I now just have a real quiet pump and am busy building a version of Superstoner's rail system which suits me better.

Cheers
