Suggestions on Quiting Smoking...

Tobacco is a rather intersting drug when it comes to addiction , Most forget the nicotine is not 'addictive' without the MAO inhibitor . Factored with the oral fixation makes for some rather unique addictions

I have read alot of good about the vaporizers recently , they certanly seem to have a higher sucess rate than other methods

I had an e-cig and it helped me quit, whenever I wanted a cigarette, I'd use it and then not even want to go smoke a cig. Then I preferred the e-cig, then I kept lowering the nicotine, then I got sick of breaking the damn thing and losing it, so I stopped smoking mostly. I still buy about a pack a week, maybe zero a week or maybe 2 a week.. Just depends on how much acid and drinking I'm doing :)

I quit a two and a half pack a day 28 year habit during my divorce. I learned that the cravings lasted eight minutes. All you have to do is get through those eight minutes. Then you get a little respite.

Just remember that the cravings con be gotten through and the time between gets just a little longer every time.

If you fail, remember that is a part of the process and start again as soon as you can.

Yoi are a practiced drug user, you manipulate your mind chemicals all the tome, this is no different.

I think one will never quit smoking at somne point in your life you will have a drag or whatever. Its the most addictive drug in the world. I hear humans have can have up to 3 nicotin receptors and those humans with all 3 are the hardest to quit. I think i must have only one or two at most cause ive quit several times in the past, though not really addicted most of them.
When i felt most addicted is when i used to mix it with weed and sometimes just smoke fags, I actually felt like i needed to smoke a bakie weed contraption, like a drug of its own. I quit by just smoking pure weed joints everytime i felt like smoking. After a few weeks and a few ounces try lighting up a cigarette and it just feels pointless. Then jus dont have cigarettes and you wont smoke, period. its not mental game its mental strength.

I would go with what @LIBERTYCHICKEN said.. GROW IT.
it takes a few days to get over the nicotine but weeks and months to get over the additives.

There are chemicals that suppress cough ect. In cigarettes.

The mistery glue-looking substance on the paper mid-cigarette(haRd to see unless at an angle) is acetone which spikes nicotine levels in the blood to get you to finish the cigarette but wears off right after you finish smoking.

The engineered cigarette gets you thinking about the next one soon after finishing a cigarette.

Don't forget the holes in the filter to keep your fingers addicted!
As someone who has also tried everything, growing it helped me.

I quit by using the nicotene gum. I stayed on that for about 2 years before I was finally able to stop that. I went down to the lowest dose on the gum and then started substituting regular gum. I've been off nicotne for a couple years now and I still crave it.

Most tobacco in cigarettes are selected for nicotine content and then treated with ammonia in order to basify the chemical. For obvious reasons. I never feel a rush from cigars though i do get over an hour of nicotinic peasure after the smoke is over. Even though much of the nicotine in cigar tobacco is processed out, one can still get enough to make one sick from a particularly strong stick, from absorption of the mouth only. I never inhale.

I quit when i got some loritabs for a surgery I went through. The pills got me through the whole 1-2 week withdrawl period. If anything its the habit so chew gum or something as an alternative. You can always roll up pot leaves and smoke them lol. Also try to stay away from people that smoke. Thats the hardest part when it comes to quitting anything though.

Thats not exactly true

"In its ionized state, such as in acidic environments, nicotine does not rapidly cross membranes. The pH of smoke from flue-cured tobaccos, found in most cigarettes, is acidic (pH 5.5–6.0). At this pH, nicotine is primarily ionized. As a consequence, there is little buccal absorption of nicotine from flue-cured tobacco smoke, even when it is held in the mouth (Gori et al. 1986). Smoke from air-cured tobaccos, the predominant tobacco used in pipes, cigars, and some European cigarettes, is more alkaline (pH 6.5 or higher) and, considerable nicotine is unionized. Smoke from these products is well absorbed through the mouth (Armitage et al. 1978). It has recently been proposed that the pH of cigarette smoke particulate matter is higher than previously thought, and thus, a larger portion of nicotine would be in the unionized form, facilitating rapid pulmonary absorption (Pankow 2001).
When tobacco smoke reaches the small airways and alveoli of the lung, nicotine is rapidly absorbed. Blood concentrations of nicotine rise quickly during a smoke and peak at the completion of smoking (Fig. 2). The rapid absorption of nicotine from cigarette smoke through the lungs, presumably because of the huge surface area of the alveoli and small airways, and dissolution of nicotine in the fluid of pH 7.4 in the human lung facilitate transfer across membranes. After a puff, high levels of nicotine reach the brain in 10–20 s, faster than with intravenous administration, producing rapid behavioral reinforcement (Benowitz 1990). The rapidity of rise in nicotine levels permits the smoker to titrate the level of nicotine and related effects during smoking, and makes smoking the most reinforcing and dependence-producing form of nicotine administration (Henningfield and Keenan 1993)."

Cigars are one off the least processed of the major tobacco products (generally) also the nicotine content in cigars is sinficantly higher higher than cigarettes (generally)

Thought I'd turn to the hive mind for this question.

Been a pack a day smoker for about a decade. I'd like to quit. Now here are some aspects of my journey and attempts so far, but I tend to sabotage myself in this journey.

1. I don't want a nicotine replacement. I've tried vaping, gum, and patches. Really just want to be nicotine free.

2. Done chantex. Works and I love the dreams, but as it blocks the receptors, I simply smoke more. I do hate the headaches and nausea that accompanies the medication.

So if you've quit, what do you do in those times you really wanted a smoke? I was thinking of a combination of reduction/Journaling when I smoke with a combination of replacement therapy using gum.

I know I should just stop. Go cold turkey and remind myself of how terrible smoking is, that could be an option I simply know I'll be meaner than hell for a bit.

Thanks ahead for your opinions. I need to stop this disgusting, and expensive habit.

I should have known better than to use my research into the civil tobacco company dumps prior to the sucessful suit against them.

I stand chasened and corrected. We are bound hereto winnow rumor from fact at every level. Thank you sir.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I simply need to man the fuck up.

Also good tip on waiting out the craving. I hadn't thought of it.

I worked at a hospital, grew up in a non smoking household... I should know better.

Thing is, lung cancer seems like a cake walk compared to COPD and the like. My uncle just passed from lung cancer. Had it for years and finally went to the doctor, died relatively peacefully with in 60 days.
I'm simply just going to have to put them down, and I'll keep ya guys updated. I know I need to do this for my health, my wallet and appearance based on my career path

Eta: I've fucked around with a lot of "addictive" substances. Never had a problem with any with the exception of tobacco

The worst yhing abouy cigarettes is when they DONT kill you. Brother smoked two packs a day for 36 years. "Im just going to die early" he said. Never ever bet on an early death. If you lose. You are FUCKED. He lost. A kidney, conjestive heart failure, emphysema, gout, poor circulation, and he is still alive.
