Suboxone dependent (for now), Looking for advice.....

Hello everybody,

First off, sorry for being so long but I wanted to give all pertinant facts! Thank you for your time and help...

I’m really looking for some advice and I’m not really sure where to turn. First off, here is a little background on myself. I have been a suboxone patient for almost 9 years and prior to that I was on Methadone for 7. Basically, I have been ‘stuck’ and can not quit due to the severe persistent withdrawals….

I have been doing a lot of research the past couple weeks regarding Medical Marijuana for opioid withdrawals and PAWS (Post acute withdrawal symptoms) but this is my problem: I don’t have a history of chronic pain beforehand (I was stupid in my twenty’s and now I’m spending over a decade trying to rectify the mess).

I am currently on 4ml per day but whenever I go down to 2ml I guess severe muscle cramping, diarrhea, vomiting, severe insomnia, unable to eat, lose a lot of weight. These withdrawal symptoms can drive a person crazy, as they persist for up to 24 months. All the research I’ve read suggests Medical Marijuana could change the tides in my lifelong battle. Finally a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow….BUT I’m not sure what to do to get a doctor to hear my case.

Before someone decides to say “you are just trading one addiction for another”, I’ll stop you right there. I have not used any drugs (besides suboxone prescribed to me) in over 16 years. I do not currently smoke weed but used to as a teen. I am interested mainly in edibles, as I don’t smoke. I obey the law and want to go about this the right way. Anyone who has been addicted to opioids/opiates knows the pain & suffering I refer to and it can't compare to quiting weed.

I just want to be FREE. My addiction dr. does not support MMJ as suboxone is his payday but I do have medical records documenting my struggles with detox… I am looking for any advice anyone could offer me….I’m just tired. I’m only looking to be certified for 2 years tops. I feel this could be a miracle in my life...but I'm at a loss... Thank you!

In and of itself, Suboxone dependency is not a qualifying condition. Has the management program caused you to struggle to maintain your weight? Otherwise you'd need a qualifying condition from the list....

Before you worry about getting legal with weed, find out if it will help you. Should be easy enough to get your hands on a bag and some papers.

Hello,
I am a new member and this is my first post. (Hello RUI!)
Your post caught my eye.
I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your question about mmj. But...
Have you done any research into Kratom? You can find some good information on Erowid and other ethnobotanical sites. I used it successfully to get off prescribed pain meds such as oxycodone and morphine. It is not an opiate, it's currently unscheduled in the US, and you can buy it online or at some head shops. It acts on the same receptors as opiates and completely eliminates withdrawal symptoms. It is a plant originating in Indonesia and Thailand; the leaves are dried and taken as a powder or tea.
It can, however, result in trading one addiction for another if you're not careful to regulate your dosage and eventually taper off.
I would suggest doing a little research- and find some of the forums where people have had experiences specifically with Suboxone and Kratom. As much as I love cannabis, it never helped me with any actual withdrawal symptoms. For me personally, finding this plant was a minor miracle; it made me feel normal for the first time in years.
As I said, my best advice is to do a little more research and if it appeals to you, maybe buy some Kratom in a small quantity - just to see if it agrees with you before you commit to a regimen.
I wish you the best of luck, and I apologize in advance if anyone thinks this is too off topic, but I really felt moved to speak up - having been there myself.

Thanks to everyone for your input. My problem is I don't want to be on it anymore....It is Expensive and I always have the fear of losing my health insurance. I've read a bunch of research that says it really helps with energy, sleep, appetite, etc. I am currently trying to get up the courage to give quitting another shot but I always get to a point and can't do it. I am currently not having withdrawals, as my dose isn't at that point. I am just preparing. As far as smoking...I was really interested in the edibles as a method.... I would consider the symptoms as chronic because they are very severe and last forever....

I will def look into Erowid and Kratom. I never heard of it....

Ok dude im about to give you the best advise you EVER got.......EVER!!!

forget you card, forget weed , put it on the back burner. The ONLY thing you need to worry about is getting clean. (Sure get urself a bag to smoke for Withdrawls etc)
Ill tell you my story. I was on 80 MG oxycontin 3 times a day and Diluadid for some shrapnel i have in my back and legs. I took this for 4 years, and every day of teh 4 years my life sank further into the "shit pond" of opiate addiction.
After that 4 years my wifey told me.....find a better way to live or find another person to be with. She said she didnt want to see me slowly killing myself anymore.
That day i decided, no matter what i would be clean in 30 days......

I bought a bag of weed, got some valium, some Imodium AD, some anti nausea pills. For food, get TONS of water, kool aide, Otter pops, Popcycles, and some soup for when you can eat.
Get Netflix...this is crucial, you will NOT sleep for awhile an dthe WORST thing for you is idol time.....make those hours slip away with a Valium and Trailer park boys marathons, anime, movies, rape netflix..its your best friend in this time of need.

You will have the shakes, quakes and every nerve in your body will hurt and tell you to find some pills/subutex w/e ASAP or you will die.... trust me you wont die. Always remember, if you get to the point that you are shaking and frantic with opiate cravings, you are closer to clean than you think..... that's the drug on the way out, its the storm before the calm. Fight through it. Its not easy man...but if you are strong of heart and mind, and if its what you REALLY want you can knock it out no problem.

I can tell you this after 4 years of HARDCORE abuse..... teh world is so much more beautiful when you are sober and off pills. Things taste better, your body will feel different, colors seem brighter, women more beautiful, music more awesome......do it for you man. Trust me you wont be sorry. Fight through it and in teh end stand proud that you did a very hard thing.... believe in yourself man.
