I have these coming very soon:

dutch passion skunk #11
Dinafem Cheese
Green house big bang
Royal queen special queen
Delicious NL Blue
Delicious caramelo
Big Bud #2

which would be better for scrog vs mainlining, and once going what phenome characteristics would point to one or the other?

Coming from a scrog dude... If you know how to mainline properly, id mainline them all. Most of those look Indica dom anyway.

Nooooooo! Don't tell me that! Why meh? What do you mean by all sidebranch? I thought the whole point of mainlining was to have nothing but colas?

Also, I read it is recommenced to harvest skunk #11 at 7 weeks even if buds don't look ready. That is when the plant is at it's best. Maybe they were past their prime?

Week 7 under laboratory/professional grow op conditions, fed the exact right amounts/food cut at right times etc.., any and all conditions perfect, plant never ever under any stress or unhappy for a second from day 1 of veg to the final day at harvest... If you can do that, then you'll be able to tell when they're done... I stopped using times as anything but a guide... I have a qush plant that thats pushing 70+ days in 12/12 and its just not done, I'm suspecting a week more maybe but the times posted by the breeders are their absolute best finishing times, as well as usually based on clone finishing times, seed plants can also differ...
