Strains for Sleep Apnea?

Does anyone have any recommendations for which strain(s) helps sleep apnea? I'm thinking some Sannies Herijuana IBL could work well?

Honestly I'm not sure any strain is going to help with sleep apnea. I can help with insomnia as I suffer from it and know what works for me, but sleep apnea is caused from the throat closing while you sleep correct? What helps with that besides the sleep mask?

Don't use cannabis if you have sleep apnea because it does cause a mild allergic reaction giving the sensation of having a colf, which can stuff up your airways even worse.

There is no strain to help sleep apnea since you need to clear your airways, it's not something that can be affected psychologically like pain, sleep apnea cannot be fixed via drugs, only operations help or some big contraption. If you want a strain to help you sleep than any strong Indica will knock you out, in that case I recommend primarily Afghani strains or Kush but none will help with sleep apnea, the condition as a whole.

I know a few people with sleep apnea who use masks and have talked about the severity of their breath stoppage at night. I wonder if the calming effect of smoking might make that even worse. It is not something I would want to test without a friend or spouse who is willing to stay awake and watch my sleep patterns for a couple of test nights.

If you have someone willing to observe your patterns, you could give it a try, but I cannot imagine there is any benefits.

I have severe sleep apnea, and I can't smoke (or use medibles) or have any alcohol right now at bedtime, as it relaxes my body, and particularly my throat parts WAY too much, and I wake myself up, literally strangling. (Or boyfriend wakes me up, hearing me strangling, on my own self!). Sleep apnea can be a physical malformation with the soft palate/adenoid/tonsil/tongue area. As if not breathing or sleeping weren't enough, the heart murmur, high blood pressure, and BLAZING effing headache is about to kill me. I would be very very careful medicating for this.

Personally, I think an appt with an ENT, losing weight (if that is an issue), getting a sleep study, CPAP machine, or surgery, is the route this will take. It's been almost 4 years for me, and I'm finally getting an adenoidectomy (hopefully in 2 weeks). Might yank out the tonsils too. This has been hellish, and I wish you luck. Be careful!!!

I know this is an old post but I thought it was worth bumping :) Sorry to hear about your apnea, I have one too. Since losing weight I've gained much better sleep to the point I no longer use my cpap. I actually find I sleep better now without it. I sure hope if you ended up with one that you're resting better. You'll have to check in every so often to have it calibrated, to make sure it works optimally for you at all times.

Have you had any luck finding the right strain for you?

:peace:

Haha unfortunately the herbage isn't going to help for that (but if you do make ground-breaking scientific progress using weed for SA, let us know ;)

The only kind I can imagine may help is a nice trippy, active sativa like a Neville's Haze or other. BUT since it's when you want to be sleeping...

Pioneer that ish bro. Do it.

On the contrary to what a lot of people seem to believe, severe sleep apnea does cause swelling of the throat and particularly the uvula(excessive snoring causes irritation), seeing as mmj is the best thing on the planet for reducing inflammation, I don't see how many think it doesn't work? Maybe something they've heard or read which made them hyper vigilant in their beliefs. Either way, heavy indicas have been the best option by FAR, and not just for one person either. These same indicas have taken three people off of many of their daily pills they used for different reasons. No more valume, no more Demerol, no oxy or percocets. Even have a patient that dropped her hydrocortisone for mmj!

Btw, any of you with sleep apnea tried to sleep with those cpap hooked up to them? Not exactly comfortable huh?
Look at how effective mmj is as a bronchodilator.. Even works for people with asthma ;)

Time to study the facts and stop listening to what doctors tell you! Doctors make money from sick people, not by helping them.. Not to mention, doctors don't make money by sending you somewhere else.

Sleep apnea here too, use a mask at night and all is good. When I skip the mask, I feel VERY different in the morning and wake up constantly at night. I was very overweight for a long time, losing weight (50 lbs) did not stop my apnea, same story with my Dad. Smoking or vaping only helps my sleep. Started using the mask about 5 year ago at age 35, totally life changing. Energy went from zero to 110%, wish I found it earlier.
