Storing seeds?

I have some seeds and I can't plant them yet whats the best way to store them and how long do they last?

Dry sealed container at 15-25c works best for use within 2 or so years (if room temp make sure its a dry climate, mold is really what your worried about over viability), any more and you want to freeze them (make sure its a slow freeze, fridge first than freeze, or vacuum seal then freeze). If you just plop them into a deep cooler from room temp it will cause rips in the dna and funky mutations to happen or kill the whole seed.

I prefer the fridge for short term storage up to 2 weeks

or better in the freezer, at both times add a teaspoon

of raw rice to absorb any moisture, use an old medicine bottle

5 degrees Celsius and 20 percent humidity use rice or silica packets to prevent moisture or a mixture of both ..I've had seeds in my mini fridge for a year now under these conditions and my seeds still germinate with ease.. peace and respect

its more for long term storage. I have them in a ziplock bag in a cool dark place. Is freezer better for long term?

It's supposed to be 4 degrees Celsius and 20 RH perfect conditions for prolonged seed storage my bad lol...complete darkness ! I should of mentioned before I bought my mini fridge to store my seeds ..yes I have enough for it lol.. I was storing them in my regular fridge in a crisper in the original packaging inside of a zip lock container with a round thermometer and round hygrometer to dial in temp and humidity and I did this for 15 years without problems I have had seeds be viable after 5 years under these exact conditions ...peace a resprct

i have seeds +20 years old.
have had some loose in trucks tool box through seasonal changes. some in the freezer, some just sitting in a dresser.

the viability of all is the same. same germ rates, which are quite good. even crushed seeds have given me 50%

if your storing for a long period as in measured in decades.. go for your freezer. otherwise it really doesnt matter.
i like 60% and 60°. for normal storage

I know many don't do well under 20% humidity..
like with decreasing humidity, longevity is also improved once you reach the UPPER critical moisture content. at this level respiration is allowed to occur and the seed actually repairs damage it would receive.. in extremely dry conditions the seed could die from the rapid water absorption. they first should beexposed to humid air...


freezing a seed wether slow or not will not have ill effects.

I would be careful using plastic bags. They aren't usually airtight. Maybe the thicker freezer or storage bags are. All I know is that bud can be smelled through plastic bags, and dries out in typical 2mil plastic bags.

I use little 2dram jars sold at the smoke shop (for concentrates?). You can find similarly small glass jars at hobby stores, sold for mixing paint I think.

I add rice to those little jars and keep them in a plastic kitcheware container as an additional temperature barrier/moderator, and keep that in the refrigerator. I suppose small baggies might work if kept in an airtight kitcheware container. I think I would put a bed of rice inside that kitchenware container to help moderate the humidity since the bags are probably permeable.

Pair of stocking's for a week or so after they are harvested,then just dark place that is dry and dark.

I have kept seed's like this for years and they have all ways germinated,some freeze but i aint ever done it
