Stoney Girl Garden's Black Moon from seed

So, I always try and support locally owned business, and in my search for high quality seeds and genetics I came across Stoney Girl Gardens here in Oregon. I looked for any reviews of their strains from someone who actually grew them out, with not much luck. They make some pretty remarkable claims on a few of their strains, with flowering times as short as 30 days, and THC content in high 20s low 30s. The catch is, they claim this is possible if you follow their grow guidelines EXACTLY, which I will not be doing as I don't believe enough people would use their method to give it as a standard. I will try and use as basic and generally applied growing techniques and medium as possible, nothing custom mixed and no topping or training. I will be letting them grow natural to about 3 feet and place them around a vertical light set up, just a hanging 600 watt HPS in a 4x4 custom build box. I was lucky enough to have a few different strains made available for my next grow and decided on Black Moon, the flowering was not the quickest of all the strains and THC not the highest potential, but it was about an average, and that was where I wanted to start. The next round will be with Berkley which claims to have a flowering period of around 28-30 days.

Today I began germinating the 5 Black Moon seeds. They went into a warm glass of water for around 6 hours, until all had sunk. They went straight from the water to a 3 gallon black plastic nursery container filled with Vermifire soil straight from the bag. The pots will be placed into the veg room under six 4 foot T-8 bulbs for 18/6 after an initial period of 72 hours of dark.

Monday Feb 9 I used the "Starter Fluid" recipe from Stoney Girl, substituting Botanicare brand Gro Pro for the Fox Farms brand Grow Big mixed with Superthrive and sprayed the top layer of soil over the seeds until soaked.

Tuesday Feb 10 checked at lights on, and 4 of 5 seeds have broken through. So this becomes the question, for the day one week one start of Veg. Is there an accepted time for the clock to start ticking, is today day one or when the first set of leaves opens?

24 hours after the initial dirt breaking. The cotyledon leaves opened up immediately after they were through the dirt and already had the first set of single blade leaves unfurling before the end of the first day, a little over of two inches growth on the biggest one, pictured here. 4 of 5 seeds are above dirt, no signs of the 5th so I started germinating 2 more seeds.

Chick has balls. Well, out of the 5 pack of Black Moon seeds; 4 germinated and grew, and now it looks like 3 of those 4 are male. Now from the Stoney Girl Gardens claim of a 90% success rate for females, I would say this falls embarrassingly short. The website claims to have a bounty on male plants, so we will see how cooperative they will be since this is a complete disaster.

I would have been worried once I saw their claim for 30%. Ty for the journal and being the communities guinea pig!

Well, when I found the first male I immediately emailed the company at email addy on website, and was informed that they do indeed have a bounty on males, but generally do not take them if flowering has been initiated. I told them I would wait a few days to be certain it was male (had been closely inspecting all 4 plants 2xdaily to note first signs of sex for this grow journal purposes), and make sure I wasn't mistaken. Over the next 4 days all 4 plants had shown sex, 3 male and 1 female. I emailed the company to confirm the original male and report the additional 2, that was Friday March 27, and have not heard back yet. Will continue to update, I know I am very curious as to how the company will handle this after all their claims. And also whether or not I let the males drop pollen on my Jack Herer and Pineapple and see what happens....
