stealth cab light conversion question

I have a 40T*18D*24W converted dresser. Having used 6 68w cfls in there i wanted to increase the tightness of my bud from an ok dense yet fluffy buds to closer to the stuff we get from the guy on the corner. I bought a 150w hps and took out 4 of the 6 cfl and this last grow turned out with less dense than my prior full cfl grows. I kept the plant consistantly within 6-8" of the hps and had the 2 68w bulbs about 2-4" from the sides. I have a well figured out nutes cycle with the brand and variation of nutes i use and all plants have been very healthy and hardly any undesired stretching. Though ive never messed with CO2, im not sure if that'll better my future turnouts.

Any thoughts of suggestions for a guy new to HID lighting.

maybe your temps were high. hps does give denser buds but if your temps were up high that would cause them to be fluffy too. I would say you need to move out of a cab and have a 400 watt hps as the guy above sais and that should give you the bud you seek young padawan.

You can get dense nuggs with CFLs...but you have to work to get it. You've got to have coverage all around the plant within a few inches all the time. As for which method is the best strategy for covering the plant, that's up to each individual and their needs.

Seeing as how you already made the switch to HPS though...I agree with the others bump it up to the 400w and make any adjustments to the cabinet if there's a change in internal temperatures. When you go HPS you shouldn't underestimate needs; since you have to buy a new ballast if you want to "add wattage".
