Starting seeds (Mix)

Thinking about using a mix of 50% peat and 50% worm castings. Pretty sure I've read that mix on here, does anyone else use it

That would probably work fine, but I would recommend 33% peat, 33% worm castings (or compost), and 33% perlite (or pumice).

With just the peat and castings/compost, your mix might not drain very well (think mucky mud). In general, you don't want to go much above 1/3 castings/compost.

Don't forget to add a little oyster shell or lime to buffer the acidity of the peat moss, and then let it sit/compost for a week or more after mixing and moistening for best results. (Go for about 1 TBSP/gal of either).

Good luck!

I recommend the same as above..add perlite. Peat and ewc alone won't give your soil enough aeration for the roots to grow. Take it from someone who has made this mistake before.

Excellent info guys, thanks a bunch.

Going to start an Organic grow, so i'm getting all the info before-hand. I've been searching for this kind of info with no success, good to see RIU is getting back to what it used to be when all the epics used to roam these forums. I feel that the Cannabis legalization has changed the way people share info about these wonderful plants, info has gotten way more restricted, imo.

I have a girl in the oven, but she's my bag-seed test plant (testing my PC Grow), aprox. a month from now i'll thread my journal here in RIU with a complete setup.

Love and Light

It's interesting how good info comes and goes... These days, growing is big business for a lot of people. They don't want to share their "secrets" for fear that someone might cut into their bottom line.

I just do this for myself; no profit involved. I'd be happy if everyone who loved ganja had their own healthy garden. That's how it should be, if you ask me...
