Hey ROI,

Giving everyone an update.
Our Helios series was designed and manufactured for the general lighting market (warehouse, high bay) and not for grow lights. Grow lights require a good even coverage spread, and other significant factors such as form-factor of the fixture, temperature, etc. We knew this problem from the start.

So, we went back to the drawing board and came up with one thing in mind - a grow fixture that would push its limits and capabilities with the COB technology. With that in mind, we designed two types of fixtures, an active cooled and a passive cooled fixture. We haven't named the fixture yet, but it will consume 640 actual watts and produce 1500+ ppfd with a decent coverage of 4 by 4 feet @ 2 feet from canopy or less. It will be on display at Hempcon. We're also working on 1200W and 2400W versions as well.

I present to you, The Passive Version:

The Active Version:

The 100W fixture uses a 90 degree lens that spreads the ppfd / output really wide.
At 1 feet from canopy you will get a 3ft by 3ft coverage. Anything further than 3ft is not recommended. The 100W would be great for a small tent light (1-2 plants in the tent).

Well that passive one is the one I am interested in....but not at any cost. If it's reasonably-priced, then I'd be down to try it.

How is that possible? 90° lense at 12" high is 50% light output at 12" from the center. That's half light output at the edge of a 2'x2'. And even if we give it you're whopping 250lumens/watt, that's still only 400ppfd over a 3'x3'.



And the 640w light in a 4'x4', 1500ppfd. So about 250 lumens/watt?

When we talk about grow lights, we don't use the term lumens. Lumens defines brightness via reception of the human eyes. However, that does not apply to specific wavelengths such as 450nm or 660nm which do not produce the standard green/yellow light that maximizes lumen reception.

I don't understand what you mean by 50% light output at 12" from the center. Does that mean you did accurate optical measurements for us with at the fixture level and at the COB level? What is our light output at 13"? We also never published or posted PPFD measurements for our 100W fixture, how did you get 400 ppfd over a 3x3? At what distance from the center did you get 400 ppfd over a 3x3?

The Helios 100 is marketed as a grow tent light, with enclosed space and reflection of PPFD through the walls of the tent, and is our lowest wattage model (priced incredibly low and is entry level). If you are unsatisfied with this power output or coverage area, feel free to buy our 1200W fixture.

We did a lot of lab grade readings and without disclosing too much, we did perform a relativity test with our Helios series:

What he's getting at in a figure other than lumens is that you are suggesting the lamp is putting out 3.5 umol/j. That's what it would take to get 1500 PPFD in a 4x4 with 640 watts.

I'm guessing you did a spot measurement directly under the emitter at 24"?

For the 100w light you said 90° reflectors, and at 1 foot height, it covers a 3'x3'. A 90° reflector puts 50% output at 12" from center, refer here for more detailed math on angles and right triangles:

You claimed a 100w light covers a 3'x3', using the lumens calculated in the same post. Or if its 100% efficient, that's 11par watts per sq foot.

Hi Rahz,

The 1500 coverage is at the center and falls off gradually pending on distance. We're still working to get laser cut optics that sit over each individual die on our COB but that's in the works. Once we have that done, the ppfd coverage fall off rate will be decreased so much, we're looking to maximum coverage to give it a similar coverage as light bars.

Our HELIOS 600W PPFD reading with a GENERAL LIGHTING REFLECTOR (NOT OPTIMIZED FOR GROW).



This is our helios 600w reading. Great coverage in the center, but this was done with a general lighting reflector and not optimized for grow coverage. We solved that problem half way, and you'll see better coverage and optimization on our 640W.

Hi Atulip,

Just like with any light, coverage falls off at the edges and higher readings fall into the center especially with optical overlaps. We are working with a top optical lens manufacturer right now to create an optical solution that will reduce coverage fall off on the edges and promote even spread from the center.

Understood. I agree with you on the output, it is only a 100W light for those small hobbyist closet/tent grows.

We're currently working really hard to match production. We are currently at max capacity in production and back ordered for 6-8 weeks.
We own facilities in Taiwan, SEA, and just bought a new factory to keep up with production, currently staffing is an issue, and we're expecting the new facility to be up and running around April 19th.
After that, our production times will be 2-3 days compared to 4-6 weeks.
We're also looking into putting grow lights up for online sales.
Our general lighting division is killing it in the 300W~ LED market and it's been pushing our productions behind.
