Split Stalk

Damit. I've got a plant about 2 1/2 ft tall thats in it's 3rd week of flowering. I've had it tied down to it's 5 gal bucket with "fuzzy sticks". Everything has been going fine. I looked at this afternoon and the main stalk was spit right at the "Y". Like, about an inch down..... I freaked. So, I got the fuzzy sticks, twisty-ties, and duct tape and tried to put Humpty Dumpty back together. I released the pressure, of course, and watered it. Both "sides" perked up so I assume that it's getting water to both sides.
Has anyone else had this problem?
A buddy said to twist-tie it together and put a little cloning gel on the split. Does that make sense.
