Hello all fellow members.
So today the most idiotic thing happend-one of my main stems has broken.so my outdoor white widow is topped and under LST 4 some time now.i was checking bugs and when i walked around the plant one of my legs was stuck in the String, used 4 lst, and then BAM,CRACK,FTJUH-the stem was almost completly torn apart!!!:evil::evil::evil:It is little bit still on to the other main stem.so i used duck-tape and i hope it will work-WILL IT WORK FELLAS?????pls give advice and can it heal itself and if it can how much time does it take????
also, my plant got so much stress, that i decided i took some clone as well 4 the broken stem and 4 couple of other places.i mean like fuckk dudes-why i am so stupid taht it happened?I feel so bad right now that......oh fuckk!!!!:evil::evil::evil::hump:

hey gs, that's a nasty one man, sorry to hear. Good thing you took clones in case it doesn't pull through. I wouldn't of recommended duck-tape but im sure that was desperation kicking in. If she was REALLY healthy before she could be fine, but what a bummer!! I have snapped one of my big branches on my previous grow and used a rather large toothpick as a splint with some string, reason is she could still grow with it. She was 2 weeks into flower and pulled through well. Main stem break could post a bigger problem. The duck tape could post a problem if she wants to carry on growing and the tape is holding tight..

Good luck and let us know how she progresses. :peace:

use wet tissue paper and duct tape around it! the duct tape is not good!!! also too strong!!! use wet tissue paper like a cast.

Have had similar split and used duct tape alone to fix it. No problem. If possible, tie splinted break to surrounding healthy branch(es) for added support as the break heals.

settle down GS, i am the biggest jack ass here and have stupidly done that 4 or 5 times and everytime i used whatever was closest to me to "fix it" ..... most of the time i used just a string and they always pull out of it! The worst thing is if you are by yourself and it breaks and you had to walk away to go get your duct tape, then its broke worse when you get back with tape (cockfuckinsucker!) but as long as you "tied " it up with that tape Right Away , it will be fine, make sure its put back together the same way it split. (well as close as you can)
It appears to be outside, thats why i say it will be fine, it also looked plenty healthy to survive that one. I believe if you got it tied up tight enough then it will start mending itself within a few days and will be good as new in a week or so, and i dont even think you will lose that top part..... it might sag for a couple days but then them leaves will start perkin up again and you will be happy as fuck!
keep it watered and dont let the wind mess up your lil "tie" (duct tape)
(if its outside and the whether is decent i would say 85% on the shit i just said)......GOOD LUCK!

no big deal......happens lotsa ways, some people do it on purpose pretty much(supercropping. push it back together and get something that creates a barrier)(ie:superglue, wet stitches. etc) tie her back up, close off the wound, and wait....all u can do really.....

it sucks you had to go back for the tape but .. it happens....
i dont think it will take no longer to flower either , its outside , its gonna do what it wants to! the strain and the light will tell you when its gonna flower unless you broke it right in the middle of flower or even at the beginning of flower but since it is in veg you just performed HST instead of LST ....no big deal

Next time if this happens again just put toilet paper around the break and spray it with water, it acts like a cast then when the plant grows it just falls off.

I know this is an old thread, but I also split my stem down at the base. I was trying to tie them back just a smidge and when I was done.....I saw about a 2 inch split in the top of the main stalk that connects to my 2 dominant colas. The entire stem itself is about 7 inches long and just over an inch in circumference. Again, this happened at the top of the bottom main stalk. The colas were still firmly connected to each side of the split (one side a piece). The 1st thing I did was panic (lol).....and then I IMMEDIATELY secured the split and duct taped it back to damn near exactly how it was. I wanted it to be firm because the winds here can be pretty rough......but I also didn't want to restrict the plant's future growth either by wrapping TOO tight. Its been a full 36 hours and she's never drooped, although her hairs have turned a pinkish blood red color on the tops, which I have heard is an indicator of substantial stress on a plant. My issue is......the plant just entered its 6th week of flowering outdoors. The buds just started to explode open too (kicking myself in my own ass right now). My questions are, will this split in that very critical area of the plant increase my flowering time and decrease my yield/potency? The plant is 3 feet tall with 7 main colas (2 dominant). Wouldn't this split affect every single cola on the plant now? It was budding so beautifully throughout the flowering phase so far too. My previous concern was the minimal amount of sugar on her.......but just last week, she exploded with trichs EVERYWHERE. She is scheduled to be finished in 3 more weeks.......but will this tragic incident disrupt or even worse halt all the glorious progression that she has displayed in this last 10 days? Do I push back the harvest date? Will the buds continue to explode open.....or will my yield be busted because of this? Many pleases and thank yous!!!

I got to say i really wish i could remember what i typed that got deleted so long ago. lol. it was kind of a surprise when i saw i had a post deleted, its the first one ive seen of mine deleted. although back in my earlier years on rollitup i did like a good personal attack if i felt it was warranted.(in this case it doesnt really seem to be why it was deleted though) lol. how things have changed.....

Many thanx guys!!!!! One last thing before I go though........its been about a week since the split in the stalk........Now call me crazy, but the plant has exploded more than I've ever seen throughout any week of flowering!!! I don't wanna go out on a limb......but it seems this terrible incident was a blessing in disguise! I can't believe it.....but the split DEFINITELY helped way more than it hurt the plant. Anyone else ever had this happen to them before???

sure, a break can be effective during flowering if done properly at the right time to focus growth on other parts, i experiment with it regularly. Alot more often than i accidently break them.

Reviving this thread, if possible. How long does it take for a completely broken main stem to heal itself. Orignial Poster asked the same question, but I didnt see where anyone answered it. Thanks Rollitup.com!!!
