Someone tell me what's going on here?

Hello there! Alright so my babies are about 2-3 weeks from seed now I think, including popping them. They look lush, a little high on the nitrogen I'd say, but nothing too crazy, was only feeding with seaweed extract, half strength. The frist rounded leaves are starting to die off as normal at this stage. Leaves are curling down a bit but I don't think I am overwatering. Just noticed today that the second set of leaves, the single point ones are looking like they are going to little pale compar d to the rest, as I don't think it's nitrogen, I gave them their first Cal-mag feeding at 1/4 strength as we speak. The lights are about 3-4 inches away and I am using a 4 bulb 2'x1' high performance t5 in a small cupboard kind of thing for starting them. Other then the first set of True leaves paling, I am wondering what is going on with the newer growth as it looks tough and the edges are hard, I am thinking that the light is too close and intense and should be raised? I've had this problem before and it seemed to make things better but I would like some confirmation as if this is the true case? And this effect on the leaves is that of heat stress/light stress.IMG_20171116_105401070.jpg IMG_20171116_105411536.jpg

it's time for 1/4 to 1/2 nutes and they need to be repotted right away. They are root bound in those solo cups at this point.

I agree about the root boundness, they are getting there for sure. I just checked them today and one root had popped through the bottom of these cups, not completely bound yet, but will need tansplanting soon. 100%. But what about the thick hard leaves? Is it the light being too close? I will give them a 1/4 to half strength of their veg nutrients next watering, which should be in a day or 2. As I have just watered them with RO water with a pH of 6.5 with as I said it's first feed of cal-mag at 1/4 strength. using a meter.

What’s your RH? Sometimes low humidity can crinkle leaves like that.

As well you did not answer my question regarding the drooping/slightly clawing first true leaves, I really don't think the slight yellowing is nitrogen. As they have been feed slightly as well. What else do you think on the matter?

Tbh I don't have a gauge in there right now, but I bet it's low. I'll get a bowl of water or something going there to even things out. That's what I usually do in my starting cupboard and I've never seen this as bad before.

That's what I would have said too but the medium is getting bone dry pretty much. Should I let it get drier? Lol they've started to look better in the few hours of the changes I have made. Adding more humidity, raising the lights and giving a little call mag. I guess I will see tomorrow what the changes are. Straight water for a few waters you think?

are the paling leaves touching the cup?

and yeah, time to repot it. give it some nutrients aswell, i go calmag and 1/3 nutes the first dose

Now is a great time to add some mycor or any microbe supplements you may have. tomorrow add some sugar to feed the microbes, your roots will thank you.

Alright, I will transplant asap. How can you tell though? And I would say no for the most part for leaves touching the cup, what happens there? What kind of sugars would you recommend? It's is in promix with myco

as i said in a different thread earlier today, you start nutrients between the 2nd and 3rd set of leaves. I bet that the edges of your cup are lined with rooots. Transplant her into a proper pot and start treatin her right you meany butt.

They have been getting some nutrients, and I was planning on transplanting into bigger pots by the weekend anyhow. Into a nice mixed organic soil. Gaia green I think it's called, can't remember haven't picked it up at the local shop yet but anyone have experience with this line?

if you let the soil dry out it will have heavy salt deposits on the roots. You need proper drainage where the water easily drains out of the pot. If you use soil it will compact throughout a grow and become less porous and drainage will become a problem. Go get some vermiculite or perlite and mix it in and it will help you out.

cut holes into the cups so the water can drain out, the roots will rot.

I would drop the ph. as far as I know there are 2 ways to grow in pro mix. as a base for a super soil recipe. in that instance ph 6.5 is perfect as with other soil mixes. if its straight promix and the plant depends on you to supply all its nutrition then I would ph to 5.8-6.0.
the crisping leaves is common with seedlings if not humid enough. the ph being off would aggravate that as the plant cant pull up enough moisture to keep up with its respiration. that's also why moving the light away helps more light is more photosynthesis. respiration is a process of photosynthesis. less light is less photo... so its less respiration.

Thanks, but I'm not not new eh? Maybe new to the forum but I've been doing this for years, usually never come into problems but I'm in a new home with a new setup with what I have and just need advice. As far as drainage and airation, that's 101.
