I’m about a month into my 3rd grow, still trying to dial everything in after upgrading well, everything (started in a bucket with CFL about this time last year). Now I’m in a 4’ x 6’ climate controlled shed (false wall entrance/LED old style lights), where I run 3 plants on a perpetual schedule. All my auto grows are from Nirvana seeds (so far), and every plant so far has yielded 1.5-3oz so I can’t complain really, since I’m still learning.
This last run was Northern Lights and AK48.
I’ll tell you about this AK plant (cut at day 70), it came out TERRIBLE!!!! I’m not even sure it was AK. It was supposed to be “short” but the thing stretched SOOOO much, it was about 5 feet tall, it was chasing the lights only to burn itself anyway – I raised the light often when I saw burning. Most of the top leaves got scorched, the buds did not bleach, but the leaves sure did fry and curl up nice and crispy. I lost a ton of veg, and the buds never fattened up-it actually just quit growing, I still harvested about 2oz of some FLUFFYYYYYYY cabbage. I’m still crossing my fingers to get some kind of cure, some kind of potency, but even the smell is not there – it’s been jarred for 1 week only.
So yesterday, I decided to examine the roots and here’s what I found. This is a 7 gal plastic pot, and you see that beautiful Northern Lights plant back behind it, IDENTICAL pot and conditions, and that plant is coming out gorgeous, I’m at a loss why this AK is SO root bound when there was 7 gallons of FFOF and pearlite, you can see how much pearlite is in there. I honestly don’t understand how some people are growing in 1 gallon grow bags when I’m dealing with this in a 7 gal…. it just doesn’t add up for me logically. Am I the one causing this somehow, or is it plant specific? I wonder if the NL is the same situation under the soil. I'm thinking I need to just stick with the 5-7 gallon fabric pots, but it does use SO much soil.
