~~Soil question!~~

Alright so I'm about 1 week into my first grow and I was using a 12 qt bag of Organic Seed Starting Jiffy-Mix. Unfortunately the bag was almost gone but I had enough to plant my seeds. Then it's time for me to transplant a few plants into a 1 gallon pot. I was able to transplant 2 plants but now I have barely enough for the 3rd plant. I put the soil in the 1 gallon pot and it was only enough to fill up halfway. The only soil I have left is Miracle-Gro Potting Mix. Would it be okay if I filled the rest with Miracle-Gro? So 50/50 Jiffy & Miracle-Gro. Let me know what you think! :weed:

Mg potting mix works alright, might burn your plants a little bit though because of the nutes in it already. But you usually don't need ferts till late veg with it. Don't forget to add in some perlite though, usually the soil mixes are pretty lacking in that area

BP Be prepared. If that's all you got it's a pretty simple answer.

I've known many who can grow good plants in MG but I would never use it.

Thanks for the reply! I will try it out and see how it goes. I'm going to get some FFOF pretty soon but I will be using that with some seeds I will be ordering!

That's great, you will probably see better results with FFOF I swear by it.
Best results I've ever seen the only others I'd be willing to try is maybe Subcools super soil mixes.

Yeah I've been reading a lot about which soil I should use for my next grow and I'm definitely going with FFOF!

Miracle Gro Organic Potting Mix mixed with their Seed Starting Mix should be fine, but mixing their regular potting mix that feeds for 6 months is a bit risky. Its designed for established plants, so it can easily burn your seedling, but hopefully you were able to add in enough of the Jiffy mix that it won't do to much damage. In fairness to MG, you'll also have this problem with Fox Farm Ocean Forest.

FFOF can burn seedlings too. That's why you start with FF Light Warrior then transplant after a month into Ocean Forest.

You will have to be very careful with watering. MG has time released watere activated nutes. The wetter the medium the more food is released. I do not know what is in Jiffy mix I have never used it. I would suggest leeching the MG a bit first and buffering about 3:1 with inert perlite. Best of luck

BTW I have used MG successfully and it is not the big bad boogie man that others portray it just requires a bit of knowledge and caring. I also suggest the FFHF rather than the FFOF just my personal preference of course it is your choice.

I've never had any problems with FFOF burning up seedlings and I even use it to germinate seeds in.
