Would changing from cfls to hid be better, or is it the lack of nutrition that was in my soil, and not vegging them? I need to know before I wind up dishing out $400 for new flowing chambers.!

All of the above would be improvements... definitely HID over CFL if budget allows, nutes are highly recommended, and veg is a requirement.

How long would you normally veg in a 4x4x6.5' tent? With a 600w? 5 or 1 gal containers?

i'd say typically light is a more important factor, but it's kinda like saying whats more important to a human, water or air. You need both in good quantities/qualities, that being said, i'd spend your money on lights, HIDs to be specific.
And who knows what your last grow was lacking with no pics or information.

Rock dust will improve density. IR light and deep red 660 light will improve density as well. just have full spectrum lighting (not hps) and a well balance soil mix.

Theres studies atTexas A&M on IR lighting and density in various plants
nice i like this a lot thanks for the help

I get my bentonite / volcanic rock dust from a landscaping supply store down the street. 10 lbs for $9. The oyster shell flour I buy 2 hours away. Its the cheapest place anywhere. Plus I have friends and fam nearby there too. Glacial and basalt I order from
